Can someone tell me if this is a resistor-based LED, or does it operate off of the 12v system? I'm talking that stupid little red LED in the first bank of the switches....

I'm sure it has some sorta resistor connected to it.

Its a 12 volt LED...you will need a resistor. Unless you like to smell burnout LEDs

Ok, so now I'm one and one... I'm leaning more towards 12v, too, but now I'm throughly confused

Trust me...its a 12 volt. I've made mine blue. Either you need a 12 volt LED from Radioshack...or a 3mm/5mm led with a resistor.

Do a search and look for other threads on this...I think its called something like 'the smell of leds in the morning'.

Good Luck

Ah, I do recall that thread  I just used a Varad HyperLED... already wired for 12v, and superglued against the back of the button... looks good, and it's bright as hell. :)
