- GRANDMA'S DO

I'll see a cougar pop up now once in a while, get next to it, and it's a grandma when I see in. I'm really NOT that desperate. Really. :(

What did these grandmas do, try to buy a Marquee and accidently by a cougar? Need new prescription lenses. :(

Am I the only one who has this problem / notices?

I'd say 8/10 Cougars I see driving around have either older or middle aged women driving them, never any young people it seems like. For such a cool/sporty looking car, you'd think more young people than older folks would be driving them, ya know.

Yeah, there's only one of those I've seen, rest are grandmas and mid life women.

I once saw a modded red cougar, but it was really damn ghetto, only head light covers. Chain license plate and fake chrome all over. :(

I've been *****ing about this for a couple years... here's my theory on why you only see old(er) people in cougars...

Because Ford was stupid, and didn't advertise the cougar at all... very few young people knew of the cougar, or thought that much of it (how can you when you are constantly being hit with ads for Civics, Celicas, Eclipses, etc and how cool/fast/hot they are). So when young people went to look for a car, most of them did not even think about going to a Lincoln Mercury dealership because those places only sell old people cars (this is true again). The only young people that bought cougars were people like myself... who saw one on the road... and just flat out fell in love with it, and sought out where it came from, and went specifically to the Lincoln/Mercury dealer to get one.

That explains why there are no young people (and why it died because of bad sales), now this is why the grandma's ended up with it. Because Ford was stupid and didn't advertise it (did I say that already, oh well, it deserves to be said again) the only people that knew of and bought cougars were people that went to Lincoln Mercury dealerships and saw it there. And who are the only age brackets that went to Lincoln Mercury Dealerships without being brought there by advertisement? OLD PEOPLE. Old People went to L/M dealerships looking to buy old people cars... but then they got there, and saw this hot ass cougars there... and then they up and decided to have a three quarters life crisis and buy one.

That is all... I must now dissapear again into my dark office to work feverishly on my project.

one more thing before I vanish again... I will say this... within the next year or two... you will start to notice the age of people driving the New Edge Cougar dropping into the teens. Because when the car first came out, it wasn't really that cheap. I paid over $20,000 for mine, and couldn't afford it on my part time salary. So that also helped to keep the really young people away from it. But now the 99 cougars are reaching 4 years old, and the old people that bought them are going to start dumping them before they exceed 5 years for a new car. When they trade them in, we all know the value of Cougars are dirt cheap, so now more high school and college kids will be able to pick up used cougars for less than 10 grand.

We've seen this already in the average age of IL NECO. I'd say the average age dropped 10 years since I joined... when I joined we had people in their lower 30's and upper 20's in the club... last couple meets we had now I think Heather and I were the only two that could legally drink!

REAGAN! YOU FORGOT AL!! He can drink too! So about 50% of our club could drink legally! :(

I have noticed the tread of younger cougar buds especially this year... i was always older in the IL NECO group.. but I think i am the OLDEST now.

But all that matters is that we have fun! I still have a great time at our Cougar Meets!! I can't wait for Cougar Fest!

it always seems to be grandmas, or middle-aged women, or sometimes even girls.........who don't seem to care that they're driving a cougar--They see it as "just another kitchen appliance". :ugh:

I have the same problem....seriously like 90% of the Cougars I see are old women...drives me insane...I'm always hoping I'll roll up on someone who is younger and might be interested, but it's always someone who looks like my grandma. :(

Reagan is right though...the average age is already dropping, and will drop even more over the next 2 years...guaranteed.

Well over in Rosemont when Im catchin the blue line into Ohare to go to work i see about 4 cougars all laser red just like mine (which is funny cause my girl friend has the hardest time trying to find mine because of it) and all 4 of them are owned by mid 20ish women who are so stuck on themselves they wouldnt give ya the time of day. Then every other one I see is older people (men and women) for the most part.

I knew I saw your cougar many times while driving my Fiero. Really nice :)

I agree too. However, when the cougar first came out (I was in the market for a probe at the time) I saw a huge spurt of cougars and read reports of how the cougar could be a savior for Mercury sales. However, that victory was short-lived.

LOL I saw an elderly Gentleman in Wisconsin driving a blue cougar (2001 +) with a razzi kit. Looked really cool too
