I ordered a contour SVT engine for my cougar two days ago. Now I need to have my computer reprogrammed with the SVT software. (look here for more info... SVT (http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=75581&STARTPAGE=1))

I want to get this done asap so I have the flash code and I can get my chip sent back in to be reprogrammed very soon that way I will be ready to dyno it soon after I get the new motor in.

Rylee44 was saying that I could just bring my car to the dealer and have them reprogram it to a different model car (see SVT link above)
Anyway I was wondering if I were to swap my computer into someone elses cougar or contour that has a returnless system then have the dealer reprogram it in their car, after taking out my ECU and swapping back to theirs, their car would be completely unchanged, right? (Except the few learning days the ecu needs after being reset.)

If this would not change the car, would someone like to help me out and donate their car? I could pay them for their time.

Let me know about what it would do to the car and if anyone is willing to help me out.

Thanks everyone

ok. Rylee says it wont do anything to the car, it will only change my computer, nothing else, which makes sense. I just talked to Kumpf lincoln mercury and the service advisor is going to call me back to see if they will do this for me. If they will, any volunteers want to make some quick money in the next day or two?

Rylee44 said it wouldn't do anything to the car itself. I'll check with a few dealers, midas, firestone and my brother tomorrow to see what they say. If everyone agrees that it will do nothing, I will try and find a dealer that is willing to do this even though it isn't "by the book."
I called a few places today and they told me it was impossible to do this. Rylee44 also said it would probably be hard to find a dealer that would be willing to do this, so I guess I'll have to try some more and hope one will be willing to take my word for it rather than telling me no this is not possible. Rylee actually had this done to his car so I do know it is possible and he told me exactly how they did it, now the dealers just need to listen to me and try it. They shouldn't need your car for whole day, I think we could just drive down there and it should take a few minutes to hook it up and a few more minutes while the computer is doing it's thing. That should be it. I'm not thinking about paying all that much since I can get a used ECU for $65. I was thinking around $30 depending on how much the dealer charges me. Actually your cougar is a 99 so it should be a return style fuel system and I don't think it would be a good idea to try it on that kind of engine because I've heard the return system engines have a seperate computer somewhere that helps control the fuel or something (don't know if that's true or not), so I don't know exactly what would happen there. But just to be safe I better go with someone that has a returnless like mine. If I have a really hard time trying to find a dealer that will do this, I might take a chance and just buy a whole new ECU and hope that all SVT ecu's are the same. The dealer only has one part number for the SVT ECU, so I think all SVT's have the same program. I'll let you guys know tomorrow or the next day and thanks anyway XeX.
