This is by far one of the sweetest mods I ever did... infact I did this on my lunch today -- all you need is 30 minutes or so and you can have one of the coolest Cougars out there..

It totally feels like I'm drivin a Convertible.. I never knew how big that hole is when the track and roof are completely removed.. the whole front portion is exposed... infact I got a sunburn on my ride home from work!

only drawback I have encountered is that sometimes it makes my ears pop unless I crack the windows a bit.. perhaps I should think about a targa top.. any suggestions on what to do to protect the area from rain?

you have no idea how happy I am right now... some of ya may not be aware but I have been duct taping that thing shut since it broke.. I replaced the track all by myself and it only took me about an hour to do it.. seriously I'm the happiest I could possibly be... Ford can eat my ass for the $1600.00 quote I got to fix it.. I jsut saved myself some SERIOUS cash... and to anyone who has been wondering if you could swap this item out yourself I just want to say YES! you can.. it was damn easy... and a HUGE thanks to Brandon for making the how-to on this that guided me every step of the way..

I sold my first born for the track... ;)

it was 54 degrees this morning but I had to open the roof.. I haven't been able to do that for months... that thing PURRS when it opens now... and I must admit I am completely skilled in swapping them now!

for an egg or two, you could probably get an airbag suspension, HoK paintjob, 19" bling bling rims, and all the Diamond plated metal you could handle...

I swapped my broken tracks with new ones by buying a whole new assembly

I was in a 03 nissan maxima the other day, and there sunroof controls are awesome, of course it has one touch back and fourth, but the cool part is that when the car is turned off and it is still open it will shut by itself, has anyone else seen this, it must be in other cars I would love if ours could do that

Don't know if I would like that...I like to leave it open some days (and when you hanging with all the imports  ).

Does anyone know if the clips in the rear (that push the sunroof up) are supposed to be metal or plastic on the new assemblies. I just had mine installed and they are still plastic

ND4SPD
06-22-2003, 01:45 PM
ya dude... i think those are supposed to be metal

infact i think that was exactly Crispys problem... cause her sunroof would close, but it wouldnt slide down that last little bit.

hopefully you can just buy the clips for a few bucks and switch them :)

nope

trust me - this is my problem the clips broke - Ford doesnt make replacement clips - you need to buy a whole new assembly

99Cat

I know I have a whole new assembly (the track is now silver metal...used to be black). But what are the clips supposed to look like?? Mine still look like the old black plastic ones. If they come with the assembly...why are the clips still black plastic??

Crispy
06-23-2003, 12:44 AM
I think they are always plastic.... the RAILS were plastic in other cases where they are now metal... and I swear to god that my old track was metal too but just black... regardless the new assembly works fine... pissed that Ford didn't cover mine at all or my warranty company... but at least I got it fixed and did it all on my own.. no boy help was needed at all...

I was SOOOO close to having a functional roof scoop system installed over the existing hole... got a quote on it.. remember folks.. you can do anything as long as you have money... it ended up being cheaper getting the new assembly instead and installing it myself..
