View Full Version : Lean condition both banks, pinging...

so i figured it was the fact that i still had some 87 left in my tank causing the pinging, until i threw a CEL last night. went to autozone today to have them pull the code, and i have lean condition, both banks. P0171, P0172, IIRC.

anyway... so tonight i unplugged the MAF and of course it ran full rich, and not a single ping.

is it likely my MAF all hosed up, or could my unplugging the MAF be masking another problem? ya know, whatever problem is causing me to run lean is being drowned out by the full rich of the MAF being unplugged. i'm gonna pop on the stock MAF probably sunday and see. i know it will be super rich, but at least my computer will have SOME idea of what's going on. while i'm at it, i'm gonna search for vacuum leaks and such. anything else anyone can think of off hand?

see what happened if you run stock maf.
prolly rich but not as rich as unplugging it.

welp, just popped on the stock MAF, still runs really rich, and no sign of pinging at all. i took it to about 85% throttle, no pinging and not quite as rich as MAF unplugged.

so does this sound like a mis-calibrated/faulty Pro-Flow?

That would be my guess.

What a pain in the ass. Originally I was going to get a Proflow, I then changed my mind to the MAFterburner, but once I got SVT cams i decided i needed the rev limiter raised, and a little more timing added, so I dedcided on the custom burn.

Good Luck uri!

I still may do that MAFterburner deal if you want. I have had a few interested party's, but none show any cash.

GT: if i can sell the Pro-flow soon enough, i might be ALL over your MAFterburner.

i've driven it more than a few miles on the stock MAF and it runs like a CHAMP now... just rich. if i can stick with stock MAF and just tune that to work, i'd be PRIMO

*for the record, i just got back from a wedding, and i'm pretty trashed... see me tomora :) *

Big guy, good to see (and read, spend some time reading your posts early this morning, jet lagged that is....;) )... YOU

Get rid of that rich running, and we're up for a meet.....(have been in Europe the past seven 7 weeks with very limited access to WWW)

I dont have a 3L but ProFlo did the same BS to me, I have heard nothing but horror stories about them. You would think someone that just builds MAFs could get them right the first time!!

although many people for reasons unknown to me denounce them... the C&L 73mm maf with CNC CALIBRATED sampling tube has worked wonders for me and those I know who use it... this MAF is also sold under the Vortech Max Flow name brand at summit

i haven't actually read WHY people don't like the C&L, just that they don't. *shrug*

i've pretty much decided i want to go with MAFterburner, though. i've had an area dyno shop offer a great deal for me to tune it ($60 for 4 or 5 pulls with A/F, dynojet), and i like the idea of having the adjustability. plus, the idea of having a laptop in my car is cool to me. :)

so i'm just getting the money up and shopping for a laptop now...
