ok, i got a 97 atx.
its a contour, and im puttin in the new tranny with the swap (from an 01 cougar)

whats the best year block to use, whats the best combination of heads cams intake etc to use. this is gonna be a basic swap, no headwork etc. my dad and his friend (who restores old cars as a hobby) is gonna help, and he knows a ton.

also, would it be a good idea to buy a new block so i do nt gotta rebuild and replace bearings etc?

thanks

Russell,

Just out of curiosity, any reason you're asking here, I know you've been around long enough on CEG to know the answers or to have seen the topics. Were you still interested in having me provide you with the shortblock that I quoted you a while back that you were very interested in at the time?

Thanks,
Rick

I know this is off topic but what exactly is a purveyor?

Purveyor= supplier, seller, retailer, etc.

How much for a nice 3L ready to drop in

a3.0l is never going to be ready to be dropped in unless you get a spare 2.5L motor to salvage parts from or buy it complete from someone else

you have to use the 2.5L upper motor mount so you have to remove at least one head
you have to use your 2.5L timing cover and oil pan

if you just do you research you'll find all this out...after 300-400 posts?

that being said, it still is a mangeable project for anyone if you have time (for the car to be down)

actually... my 2.5L and 3.0L oil pans, oil pickup tubes, and dipsticks were all practically identical... *shrug* the only difference was in the dipstick, the amount below the min/max lines... just not as much material that extends into the pan. it was a late 99 longblock. 2000 block, with the extra oil feed passage, but dual port heads and aluminum UIM.

and mcon is right... as long as you're detail orientated and patient and can afford the down time, you can do it. before my 3.0L swap, the farthest i'd been into my engine was lower intake manifold. heh. just GET THE FORD TECH CD! that thing was invaluable to me. Chilton sucks hard.

ya the oil pan requirements do change depending on model year

but for all intensive purposes it's just a matter of doing some lining up, seeing what fits, then some modification may be required

don't forget too about the crank bushing removal and alternator ear...

my choice is still a 2001+ 3.0l for the runnersless ports and correct water pump location

should be for all intents and purposes... :) unless you meant intensive... but I doubt it..
