View Full Version : Day 8, + Questions
Okay, folks. Some pics, plus some questions. Here we go:
This is the water pump assembly, as it came from Bill. $88 worth of insurance, I'd say.

Valve covers went on.

Okay: Injector question. Obviously I can't hook a round peg into a square hole... So where do I get new injectors or harness connectors?

Shiny header, test fitted.

2nd question. This is a tight freakin' fit. How are you supposed to route the hoses for the oil cooler past the headers? Which side is in, which side is out, and how does it attach to the water pump hose debacle? There's no room back there!

I'm out for the weekend. See you all next week.

Did you get a wiring harness with the 3.0 block? i had the same EXACT problem with my injectors, so i just spliced all the plugs off the harness that came with my 3.0. yours look to be 19# returnless injectors whereas mine are the 24# that came with the 3.0, but the connector is identical.
although, come to think of it, i'd be willing to bet that if you had that opportunity, you'd have already taken it. i'm sure SOMEBODY that did a 3.0 hybrid still has a 3.0 harness kicking around that they'd be willing to give you the injector plugs from. mine was a very late 99 longblock and it had that style injectors.

I have an injector wiring harness for returnless injectors from a 2002 2.5L.
PM if interested :)
You've got a PM CougarGT...
I could really use a response here from anyone that's done these hose connections to the oil cooler with the headers. Pics will suffice! I need to see how to route these things without them melting all over the headers!
Thanks in advance.

Those oil cooler lines were really odd. I asked an SVT owner on CEG how theirs were hooked up. If you want I can try and get a picture or draw something up for you tonight or tomorrow.
Just from memory so far the smaller diameter pipe coming off the bottom of the water pump goes into the oil cooler line and the other one comes out and continues on as it would have with out the oil cooler. You need a metal piping part that came with my SVT engine. It routes the oil cooler lines toward the transmission where the water pump line hooks up and the outlet is positioned.

Ok i just typed up a full description on how to put in the Derale oil cooler... then I realized you have the SVT one ....
sorry I can't help you out :(

i say ditch the svt cooler and go with the derale. it should be as effective, is an easy install, and the rad can be tight looking if placed well
got the part number off derale's web site- What price range am I looking at? Plus, how much more for braided steel hoses as opposed to the standard neoprene hoses... Don't too much care to have my oil going through something that can be severed by road debris...

When all else fails, ask CEG... It is well known that the MSDS headers do not fit with the factory SVT cooler and lines (unless they have changed them very recently). From memory, they can be made to fit with custom lines though. Buckshot had to ditch his with his new MSDS headers too...

Works fine with mine!
Blackcoog:
I want you to be sure of this: You're using the STOCK coolant lines that run between the oil cooler sandwich adapter and the water pump with your MSDS headers.
Correct? I'm ordering today, as I've got way too much else on my mind to futz with another aftermarket part.
Okay, folks... Just got off the phone with Bill. I just realized by the pics he sent that there is a pretty substantial difference in oil coolers between the SVT cooler (BlackCoog) and the 3L oil cooler, which I have from the Escape. The pics:
Escape cooler, and the hose/pipe assembly:

SVT cooler. Note exit positions:

So, I've ordered up the Escape assembly, and we'll see if it works. May have to give the pipes and hoses some extra shielding, but that's no biggie.
Quaife's getting installed as I type at a local trans shop (quoted $350... <Sigh> We'll see if that holds), and I hope the harness is waiting for me at home right now.

Damn ... wish I had read about the harness ... I could have saved everyone the shipping headache as I have a 98 SVT harness at home sitting in a box with an ECU and a fuel rail with injectors :) ... remeber, I am slowly but surely getting the parts to build one hell of a car. Maybe by then my son will be old enough to learn and help me
