So I bring my car to the dealership to have them swap out my fuel pump. I know the list on fuel pumps is in the 200 range, so i decide to take it up the tailpipe and have them replace it. Drop the car off around 8:30am today. Call them back at 3:30pm and say my car is just going into the shop now. Get a call 45minutes later and they tell me, "Yea you need a new fuel pump, oh and a MAF. Your MAF "isnt reading correctly"". Ive been to this stealership once before and saw them haggle 2 new MAF"s onto 2 different old people.. So I know its just a part they want to replace for the cash as my car runs/idles/drives fine when the fuel pump works. So I ask how much just to do the fuel pump.. Comes back and tells me 690+ Tax!!! So thats about 350-400 bucks in labor!! F'n Aholes!
So im back the drawing board. Basically I paid them 130 bucks today to tell me what I already knew. I also sold my replacement BAT fuel pump last week so I gotta either order one again, order a complete assembly from like FPO.com or just take it to a regular garage and have them do it.
ARGH.. How the hell can a fuel pump change cost almost 700 bucks???

Ridiculous man. I know your hestiant about cutting slots in the access hole, but trust me I was too and its not that bad. You can swap stock for stock in 20 minutes! I wish I were out there I would do it in a heartbeat. Get the BAT and take a 4 hour night and a few beers and swap it out, its easy peasy.

I really dont want to go through the fab work of getting the walbro to fit. I might not own the car for much longer, and its not worth the extra effort to get nothing in return when I sell.
Im going to call my mechanic Ive used in the past and see if he can give me an estimate on how much it will cost for him to do it. Id love to do this at a meet, but driving to a meet probably wouldnt be a good idea as I would have to have full tank to not be freaked as anything from 3/4 and under the car is unpredictable. If somebody has a sheet metal nibbler or something, we could do it w/out dropping the tank, but im not sure if I want to cut up my car at all. ARGH.. Its amazing how a part that should never give you trouble (I had a 200,000 mile prelude that never needed a fuel pump replaced) is causing so much grief and costs so much money to have fixed.

Don't worry about it looking bad after nibbling, it's hidden. How many people do you know of that look under the passenger seat when checking out whether they will buy a car or not. And I'd bet at least 90% of people never look underneath the back seat ever. Hell, it already has a hole in it to begin with that only looks pretty cuz it is a neatly cut, sanded and painted circular hole.

Yeahhh baby! :) I know I can find nibblers, hell tin snips will work as well, just slower. Seriously I don't see installing a new pump being a problem. :) Just make sure you're tank is full! :goofy::banana:

Why do you want the tank full? I figured empty would be best? Plus I hear your supposed to syphon all the crap out of the bottom of the tank while replacing the pump.
If you guys think we can handle this soon (Meet at Jeremy's seems to far away for me to have to drive the car like this everyday till then) im down. But when and where?

If somebody wants to come to my crib with the correct tools, I can supply ample beer and/or dinner if necessary. Maybe I should just goto Sears and get some snips or a nibbler... I dont know, I hate broken stuff!
