Guys,
Just ordered some calliper paint from ESP and wondered if anyone has got any tips for applying or is it just a case of follow the instructions on the tin?

Hey Stu
A mate has just painted his calipers on his subaru and they turned out really well, just make sure you clean them well first.
I am also in the thro's of painting my calipers, but i am going to be a bit differant and have got the melina blue paint to colour code my calipers:tongue: not sure if this will work as it is just the normal paint, but going to give it a blast anyway.........Gav.

Gotta feelin' it's gotta be heat resistant paint.
I wouldn't fancy recking my discs with melted paint.
Then again I may be wrong and it might turn out fine.
Are you gonna be at Interford Groove?

No i will not be at interford and i am gutted. This is one show i wanted to go to this year, but i coach junior football and we hold our annual five-a-side tournament on the 6th of july, and i can't really get out of it as i am involved in the organisation. Am going to try to get to another show though, i think i will be going to USC at Santa pod later in the year. And will try to get to a meet or two aswell..
As regards to the calipers i am going to give them one light coat and see how it goes, i just didn't want the usual red calipers, don't know if you can get the paint in differant colours though?

GROOVE you can get the paint in red, blue, yellow and there is at least one other colour just cant think what it is in fact there could be two other colours.

Use a drill and get a abrasive tool bit like a wire brush type. The tin just says to spray the brake cleaner on it and scrub with a wire brush, but thats not going to be good enough as the paint will chip off as the break dust isn't removed properly.
Also the retaining clips on the calipers are very tough to replace so make sure you do actually leave it 24hrs+ before trying to put them back on or you will find they will scratch all the paint off...
Do it on a sunny day and try and get the sun targeted on to you brakes so it helps them set and definitely do 2+ coats on each caliper!
Good luck...

The other colour is green, but hardly ever stocked due to not being in heavy demand.
You do have to have a heat resistant paint, any other will just chip off.
A word of advice. Take your time, prep well and ensure that everything to be sprayed is clean. I did this to and old BMW I had and learnt that if everything is not cleaned and prepped well it looks terrible. Also try to spray as evenly as possible with more that one coat other wise it fades in parts.

Evening all
Gav, do not use normal paint on your calipers. The special paint you can get in lots of colours at Halfords etc., is the most heat resistant - even more than engine/exhaust paint. Not only will normal paint wrinkle, it may even catch fire if your brakes are hot enough!!
