Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone has done this or if it is even possible and worth it: Cutting a hold in the hood under the scoop to allow air into the engine bay. Any idea on how much it would cost or if it is a do-it-yourself-er?
Mike
Some people have done it. I would be worried about getting water on a hot engine...but I haven't heard of any problems yet.

Yea I always wondered about that...How do cars with real hood scoops function..i mean, doesn't water get into them? If that's the case, it shouldn't be a problem right?
Most cars that have a really functional scoop run directly into a filter, that is designed to not let water into the engine. Some cars have holes under the scoop, but do not run into the air intake. Take the Celica for example, it is a functional scoop in the sense that it gets air into the engine bay, but it does not run into the air intake. If you open that hood you will see that there is a funnel that runs behind the engine, allowing air into the engine bay, but allowing water to escape down under the engine.

I don't think it would be that difficult to modify to keep the water out but clearance to send air to the filter is a problem.
Also, I don't think anyone has actually done it but just talked about it.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think it is impossible, and if our filter was to the right it would be pretty easy to modify that kit for us. I contacted Banshee last year to see if the could do a shaker style with the hood scoop. They said they were talking to a NECO owner in Cali, don't remember who now. They said they would look into it for 2002 but never heard anything else about it.
Edit not working. Here is a good link:
Damit try this again.
