Can somebody please advise me on estimated life of engine lost if nitrous is used on a pretty regular basis? I would assume a lot of life would be lost and also performance would diminish quickly because of the unnatural wear that nitrous causes.... Throw in your .02 people

Nitrous can be good for your car if taken the correct precautions!

Upgraded ignition with ignition shut off option

Dont go beyond 75 HP shots

Larger injectors with a calibrated Maf

Ignition shouldn't be upgraded (since we already have a fairly powerful DIS-4 right now). You just need for it to retard under nitrous app.

Yes, the engine's bearings will have more power going to them than usual, but as long as temps are kept under control, and timing is properly adjusted.

Puff (SVT Contour) had a 100 shot put on it way back when. This was done by SVE. Yes, SVE.

Change your oil more often and you'll be fine.

Good luck when you detonate...crack a piston etc...

Be smart and upgrade!

What are you going to upgrade to? MSD, Jacobs? None of them have a more powerful coil than stock.

Where is your research, Naynay?

Exactly this has been discussed time and time again, the stock ignition is better than the aftermarket options out there, FluidSVT was the one who had all the info on this so ask him about it if you dont agree!

Ok the stock ignition may be pretty good, but...

When I had a MSD DIS-2 programable hooked up my car's idle felt...smoother...than stock.

Thanks seawulf.....i have the MSD ignition and had the same results. Just a little more dramatic result because i was running really rich at the time!! THATS my research!!

MSD ignition systems are twice the stock ignition system. All you have to do is go to their web site and see the specs. I wouldn't put jacobs anything on anything. MSD has been doing ONLY ignition systems since the 60's and just about any professional racer has an MSD box. It's true that they don't have an upgraded coil but it still makes multiple spark to 3000 rpm and more power thereafter. If you put more power to the coil its going to put more power to the plugs. Also if you get really low resistance wires you will get more spark to the plugs as well. MSD does not make plug wires for these cars but I do. I buy bulk sets from MSD and make them fit your applications. If you go MSD you'll not be sorry.

MSD might control the stock coil better than the Ford PCM, but did you guys install a new coilpack system???

Back on topic....

ANY AND ALL performance modifications will lessen the life of your engine. This is due to the added stress you put on an engine. I just read a great article yesterday which went along the lines of. Take an engine and rev it to 5000rpm on the dyno. Hold it there. How long do you think it will last. Take same engine and drive it around normally, it will last 2X, 3X, maybe even more than that then the one running 5000rpm. Why? Because the stress loads are much higher at that rpm. Stress loads are also much higher when you add power to your car. You add power by adding more air/fuel into the combustion chamber to make a bigger explosion, which in turn puts more stress on the wrist pin, connection rod, rod bearing and finally crankshaft and main bearings. I doubt you will break a crank shaft, but spinning a bearing, breaking a wrist pin, or cracking a rod isn't all that difficult to do.

Agreed!! Once again PuckPuck comes through.

The only reason why i say MSD is because of their ignition shutoff option........if you just shut off the fuel the ignition keeps going causing detonation!!! There are 8.5 wires out there for our car!
