Here's my pics, I'm the one with the 350Z, I'll be up here next year with my cougar. All I had to deal with was why I didn't have a front plate on the 350Z and all I did was show them my military I.D. and they told me to press on. To the cougar that was showing me back to I-90 (sorry for not remembering your name), why in the heck did that female state trooper pull you guys over? Let me know whenever your read this

 F*ckin window tint!
That blows Chris, ever since I've gotten mind done I've been worried about the cops. Do you have to take the sides off now and everything?
It blows because I see sooo many people runnin around with the mirror tint and that just seems 10x worse than plain black.
Another thing I find odd is how Carl can be running around with a red neon in his grill, red signals, and dark tint and I never heard about him getting pulled over. What gives Carl, you got a hook up??

Nope, she didn't tell me to peel the tint off, she just gave me a ticket for it. Does anyone know the tint laws very well? I am a little confused on all of this.
Back on the topic, here are some pics from the meet:

Anyways, I had a really good time at the first meet and all, met a lot of cool people and had a good time, I'll be joining for good once I get out of the military and move back up here. I got a lot of sh*t at the U.S. border about the 350 not having any front licence plate but I showed him my military I.D. and he was like press on. It has it's advantages. Anyways, I saw the state trooper pass me and then make her way up to you and then get on your ass and I was like WTF is she pulling him over for, he didn't do anything, it was like right after the toll booth and you weren't speeding, well sorry to hear about it but I'm outty, later

The tint laws in NYS are pretty easy -- you can basically have your back windows and rear windshield painted BLACK, and it's legal. The front windows are actually legal as they come from the factory - any more than 10% tinting film placed on the front make them illegal. I've been pulled a number of times, and my rears are dark -- only pulled because of the fronts, which are exactly 50%. (20% factory, 30% aftermarket)

Chris - Sorry to hear that you got pulled over. I didn't think your tint was that dark.

Someone left their power plug thing in my car, you know, the plug thing that comes with the non-smokers package. If it's yours, speak up if you want it back sometime.
Anyways, did you get tickets or anything for the fronts Jason?? I'm hoping with 35% all the way around there will be enough light coming in the back so that it appears as if I'm legal up front. That and I always cruise with my windows down.
Legal for NY is 70% on the fronts (so basically no tint) and like Jason said, the backs have no limit.

Just tell them that you didn't realize that they were illegal, that's the reason that you made the front lighter (in your case, it's not like mine, though), and most of the time you won't have any issue. I tried the trick with the light coming in - doesn't work - especially around dawn and dusk, when it really appears darker than it is. Mine were measured at 48% in the front (using that thing the cop had) so I know I'm over the limit.

Mine was measured at 35%, so exactly what does that mean? Does that mean I am only 5% over the limit, or double the limit?

That means that 35 percent of the light is diffused through the tint, meaning you are about 5-10% over the limit.
From everything I've heard/read, I've always taken to believe that the % is how much light is coming in.
IE. I have 35% all the way around so the windows are letting 35% of the light in, legal on the fronts allow 70% of the light to come in. So basically even with tint at 50% you are still illegal.

That's right, but the little measuring device that the cops use read the scale from the bottom up... so it shows the actual tint level.

yeah trust me on this issue ive been pulled over for my tint
Ive got 5% all around and for my front windows when the cop pulled me over and measured I was reading 17% tint and was ticketed....
yeah 70% is legal 69% illegal - which means no tint basically - yeah doesnt that suck - who follows that anyways
yeah if you got mirror tint as far as im aware it ONLY comes 35% - which is still illegal - but it definitely catches the cops eyes more
i was thinking of going green mirror tint - but i dont know if i want to deal with getting pulled over even more than what i am now.
NY cops suck - if its not Tint - its directional bulbs. Ive got green directionals, sidemarkers, and reverse lights -- (yeah been pull over for the first 2) i hope the cops down in VA Beach arent dicks about it at cougarfest - i dont even know where my amber bulbs are.

Well, my dealership has offered to take off the tint from my windows on the driver's and passenger's doors and give me a receipt for proof of removal. Now I can just hope for lenience from the judge when I send in my ticket and receipts and letter explaining that I did not knowingly intend to break the law.
Jason - How is the judge in Amherst? Do you have any experience dealing with him / her?
