I've had the moosing problem develop this winter and now it has had a rough idle on occasion when at a stop light. Could the IACV be resposible for both? I know the moosing noise should be the IACV, but maybe the idle to...... Cheapest place to get one and where is it exactly?

And Mcon99, I did do a search and read as much as I could about it!

Rough idle is a symptom at startup, but should go away as the engine gets up to temperature. I believe the IACV is like $70-75 through Ford, but substantially less through FordPartsOnline. I want to say $40ish. I'm sure somebody will speak up... or do a search.

when i was involved in an accident and left my car in my garage for about a month, i occasionaly cranked up and noticed the rough idle and moosing. I actually posted a video a while back of this problem. The temp inside the garage was probably around 40 degrees F. Since the spring/summer has started the problem hasnt come back.

Jeff-

I wouldn't doubt a bad IACV is causing a rough idle. That's all your kitty has to breathe through when the throttle is closed, so if it's far enough gone, you WILL get idle issues.

It is located on the back of the UIM, on the drivers side corner. It is held on by 2 bolts and has one wiring harness plugged into it. Pretty easy to change.

I bought a used one from a board member for $35- it's from an SVT, so mine breathes a little deeper, I think. But anyway, you should definitely get a new one. The aggravation it saves is worth it.

Thanks for the info.
I went to Fordpartsonline.com and going thru the search I came up with this

idle speed control (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=213787&chapter=DP2FL0&sectionid=6&groupid=10024&subgroupid=20066&componentid=62241&make=23&model=Cougar&year=1999&catalogid=1)

It sounds like the samething as the IACV, just wanna make sure.

Or you can just goto Pep boys and get 2 feet of heater hose and connect it from the IAC to the Intake. This is what I did in the dead of winter and NEVER had another moosing problem again... I got the tip from one of the UK guys on the forums.

How is that supposed to fix the problem? What does the extra 1.3 ft of heater hose do over the standard hose?

No idea, my dad came to the conclusion that it added more resistance to the air within the tube so it didnt cause the iacv to shudder when it's cold out since the air is more dense. LoL I don't even know what I just said, but all I know is that it works like a charm..

That might fix the moosing noise but what about the rough idle? I have read about the extra hose fix, just not into clutereing up the engine bay with more crap.

Replacing it will fix the rough idle. Get it diagnosed.
