well 3rd time is a charm. My drivers side door handle has jammed up making it impossible to open the car door from the inside. Outside handle works fine. Lock does not.

The first time it happened was more than likely my fault. I went to hit the trunk release on my fob as i opened the door, and accidently hit the lock button, causing the lock to engage as I pulled the handle. The whole mess jammed up on me and I brought it to the dealer.

The dealer said they needed to replace the whole lock assembly and the problem was fixed (thanks ford for doing it under warranty, even though i admited it was probably my fault)

About a month later the same thing happened, this time without me hitting the fob. I brought it back and they reseated everything for me, no need to change parts, and I was good to go.

Another month passed, and now it did it again. Only way to open the drivers door from inside is to roll down the window, reach out, and open it. Kind of annoying in the rain. I was going to bring it back again, but some asshat hit my sideview mirror while I was parked and ripped it off the car. Until I fix that I do not want to go to the dealer since they may think the two are related.

How big of a deal is it to remove the door panel so I can get a looksy inside? Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Door panel takes less than 5min to take off.

2 screws near the side, 1 behind the Cougar head on the handle (pops off), a couple Philips on the bottom. And only God knows why, a 5" torx screw on the bottom towards the hinges. I hate that one.

It took me a few minutes before I realized it was a different screw from the others. DAMN YOU FORD!

EDIT:

It takes some coaxing to pull it off. Just lift up & out from the bottom. Be careful of the switches. You might have popped off the little cable from the handle, it just hooks on (maybe snapped the plastic).

Take it to the dealer.. he will most likely do the work for you ..the worst he can say is .. no..I But if you screw something up and then head for the dealer.. you're in trouble..
