I just changed my front brake pads on my Cougar. Everything seamed fine until two days later. It feels as if my brake pads are dragging. My car usually coasts very well and when I go down hill it gains speed. Now it hardly keeps speed when I am going down hill and I feel a force pushing against it when I accelerate. Does anyone have any info on what may be causing this?
Oh yea, I also noticed when I press on the brake pedal I hear a loud clicking near my ATX shifter. I am pretty sure it only makes the click when I am in park.
Please help me.

When you're in park it is supposed to make the click noise ... after it is pushed down far enough to hear the click, then you are able to move the ATX out of park. As far as the other part, I hope someone more experienced can help you. My only guess is something needs readjusted, which I'd just brake hard 3 times and see if it goes away.

Thanks for clarifying about the clicking, that is one worry solved. So the only thing that I can think of is that I didn't tighten the cotter pins down to torque. It was impossible for me to get a torque wrench under the car. So I just tighten them as tight as I could. The calipers fit back on fine and the car ran good for a day or two. Please someone help me. I called the dealership and they are no help at all. They didn't even know what size or torx head to use to remove the cotter pins. The book said a T40. Nope the front is a T45 and rear is a T47. Found that after trial and error, grrrr.

You -can- fit a torque wrench to torque those down, it's just tough with the brake line in the way. Use a 2" extension to work around it. I've done about 10 Cougar/Contour brake jobs so far, and I always use a torque wrench.. :)
