Do you have the blue sidemarkers or the clear with blue bulbs? How bright are they when they blink?
I have the clear with silver backing with the stock white bulbs, and within 3 years and two cougars, have had no bad luck yet. (knock on wood)

Either way, glad you didnt get a ticket.

white is ok

blue = fire department
red = a police color

so that is why they are illegal
yes very stupid

Yeah, I haven't had trouble with the white bulbs yet with my clear sidemarkers...because every BMW and VW has clear side lenses too.

On the other hand, they may have clear sidemarkers, but I think factory they come equipped with amber bulbs to keep them legal. That is why when we order sidemarkers from Mortis, he sends bulbs with them too.

I know all about this stuff. I think i have a huge sign on my car saying, "pull me over" Anyway i have been pulled over like 15 times in the past month. Without exaggerating. 3 times by the same cop in the same spot on middle country rd. in 2 weeks too. All long stories though. I hate it.

Just an opinion,

Don't you feel that we owe the people that like to work on their cars that we behave responsibly over the types of mods we do and how we act on the street? One reason cops like to bust chops is because of some of the attitudes of people with modded cars. Cops then decide that ANYBODY with a modded car has the same attitude.

Also, I don't understand the need to perform mods on a car that make it illegal to drive on the road. Getting busted for sidemarker lights seems rather foolish to me and I believe sends the wrong signal. I mean if the law says that sidemarker lights need to be amber, then why go out of your way to make them blue, green, red, whatever? The car doesn't perform any better or go any faster.

I believe that part of our responsibility is to mod our cars with a high level of quality in the type and execution of the mod. The mod should both enhance the car and stay within the law. If more of us take on this attitude, the cops will stop busting chops.

On another note;

In all the years that I've driven modded cars, I've never gotten pulled over for having illegal mods on my car. This includes cars that have had engine swaps among other more elaborate mods. In fact, I've found that cops respect well modded cars because they know what the mods cost and also understand that an owner of a properly modded car knows the value of safety and performance. Cops understand that a well modded car is well maintained, has good brakes, has a good suspension, won't have bald tires or anything amiss with its operation.

To a certain extent, we represent the "creme de la creme" of automotive ownership. We need to show that we are indeed part of the "elite" of automobile owners out there. We can do this by modding our cars with style, taste, and with respect to the law.

Nope, my Dad's a retired NYPD Sergeant, too and when I was putting my headlight covers on he's like, "You're gonna get pulled over, that's illegal." I think that kids who mods their cars *to the extreme* will get their chops busted because most of them are jackasses and they do have attitudes. I don't blame the cops for being picky. That's their job. As long as you drive within the limits of the law, they won't mess with you. But if you make your car stand out like a sore thumb, you're asking for it. Some mods belong in shows, not on the streets. That's just my opinion.

I've had cars that had what I guess were extreme mods. I've had Chevy Vegas with V8 conversions, RX 7s with 20B 3 rotor conversions, many types of turbo cars, etc. The similar element in all of these cars was that the mods were well done, ran quiet, and passed pollution inspection. I enjoyed the performance of these vehicles and I enjoyed the notice from other enthusiasts. Cops that were both my friends and those that weren't, appreciated that I was a responsible modder that had respect for the law and the community.

I see nothing wrong with well done hi performance cars. Most cops I know feel the same. But I think that there are those that ask for it when they do things to their cars that attract the eye of the law.

Oh, I see. You're referring to performance mods. I'm talking about kids with excessive appearance mods :) All show and no go :thumbsdn: That irritates me. Making your car that noticable and stick out that much and they are ugly, then you deserve a ticket :) But if you have mods under the hood and you use them wisely, then that's fine, too.

I'm talking about ALL kinds of mods including appearance mods.

We know what flies and what doesn't with the cops. Why the need to "rub it in their face"? This applies to half finished, half baked cars. You know the ones I'm talking about? The cars that have that "wide mouth" front bumper barely hanging on the car with two different color primer, backed up with 2 bald tires, a spare donut, and 1 mag wheel, with a "garbage can" exaust tip that makes a farting sound heard 3 blocks away. I believe that this gives modders a black eye both in the eyes of the law and the community.

Appearance mods should be well done as well. Look to examples from factory modded cars from Mercedes, BMW, Honda, etc. Does the driver of a BMW M3 get pulled over because of his tires? Or that his wheels are a +3 in size? Or because he has a deep front spoiler or side skirts? No. Because his car is legal. That's what we need to keep in mind.

From most of the cars that I've seen on the NECO site, I feel that the majority understand what tasteful mods are all about. Two cars that stand out in my mind are the Cougars of Yakko69 and Red2KCougar. Red's car is especially fine in my mind and is the example that I'm going for.
