I've been thinking about getting a nitrous kit for my 2001 ATX Cougar with roughly 20,000 miles on it, but have heard many problems with the safety issues using nitrous on a ATX. I was looking at the Zex kits, and was wondering if there safe with a ATX. Does anyone know of a kit that will work SAFELY with a ATX? Does anyone in NECO have a nitrous set up in there automatic? Thanks!

Trevor (FastCougar) and I installed the ZEX dry kit to Merv (EL CID 98)'s car. The plugs needed to be brought down a step or two, and the most important thing you need to do to an ATX is install an auxiliary transmission cooler. I did this on Merv's car as well. The key is to keep the tranny as cool as possible, regardless of nitrous setups. Any modified ATX should have a cooler. It will allow the transmission to continue to operate decently under increased loads.

...granted, this may not be entirely applicable to this post, but I watched a guy dyno a Firebird ATX at Street Flight with a 150 shot, heads, cams, I/E, and he put down somewhere in the neighborhood of 535hp/560tq. What was really cool was that the owner of the car is in a wheel chair, so the throttle/brakes are all hand controlled. So yeah - that's a Firebird and this is a Cougar, but I think that given you take the correct preventative measures to your tranny, run the appropriate plugs, pull a little bit of timing out with a chip, and *dyno tune* the damn thing so your A/F is right, you should be all set! Just don't expect to bolt up a bottle, go spraying, and run 12's. Please. For your sake.

What kind of mods would need to be done to run a 100 shot?
