View Full Version : Anyone with a Borla split exhaust had this happen?

I went out this evening to get some food and a movie, and when I got out to drop the movie I had rented into the box, I noticed my DS tip piece was a bit low. Looked underneath, and found that the bracket had broken (the flat piece that bolts to the bumper). Anyone else had this happen? I should be able to just get a new piece shipped from Borla, right? Or is this something I can get welded back together and not worry about? TIA.

Just take it over to your friendly neighborhood muffler shop & have it welded back in place...Take all of five minutes and they might do it for free (or no more than ten bucks).

you should go through borla cause they might try to screw you on the million mile warranty if something else breaks and they find that you have welded other things

Yup just happened this past weeked. The rear hangers have a rubber boot with a regular bolt through it and the regular bolt rusted right through. I have it tied up with some CAT5 right now :). I forgot about it I better call and see if borla can do anything about this. They should make better rear hangers with the exhaust. Its only as strong as its weakest link.

Well, since it was too late to call, I just emailed them and I'll try in the morning if I don't get a response. I guess if they'll give me a new tip piece, sweet, and if not, I'll go get it welded together. I need to have some exhaust work done anyway (still getting a horrible vibration below 1k rpms coming from the manifolds).

I had this happen to my Borla's
They replaced not just one, but both rear sections..(mainly cause the tip design had changed)
Trying to find someone who welds stainless steel was a pain.
Million Mile warranties are great.

EDIT: This is who I spoke with

Hmm, which tips are the old ones? I've got a set of the tips with the smaller inner pipes (vs. the ones that are nearly the same size as polished section).

Old ones are where the you see the pipe inside the tip
then new ones the pipe inside the tip is Flaired out to almost meet the tip.
And the new tips are nicer, say Borla on the top.

My original tips were actually scuffed when I opened the box, but I never
did anything about it. lucky me I guess.

I had the EXACT same thing that happened to Eric F happen to me. One hanger broke, so they sent me a new section. It was the new design, so they sent me the OTHER section too. Voila- Brand new pretty new style tips & resonators!

Sweeeeeet. I just need to call and tell them, right? I called earlier and left a message with a different guy, but no response and it's been 4 hours or more. I may call Steve instead, since he would know better how to deal with this. Thanks guys! :)

What actually broke on your hangers? The rubber section that my hanger bolts through that holds it to my car is what broke is this the same that happened to everyone else? Sounds more like your actual hangers broke.

The flat piece of aluminum broke on mine. the hanger, didn't break at the weld,
actual piece broke.

BTW they may ask you to send back the old tail sections.

The new tail pieces are a little different, at least on mine
I notice that they hang lower and further out.. but that
could be just because my guy who put it on, had to make
some minor changes to make it fit by the hitch.

Yeesh! Just got ahold of them... It'll be 3-4 weeks before I get the replacement pieces in. They said they would just reimburse me for getting it welded together if I wanted to go find somewhere locally to fix it. Obviously, replacing the 2 rear sections would be a better idea, but I don't know about driving around for almost a month with a broken hanger. What would you all do?

Get some wire and tie it up real good and wait for new peices. Mine is tied up right now and you can't tell the difference.

Update: I wired it up with a coat hanger, and it worked fine. Just got the replacement pieces (yep, they sent me both rear sections) yesterday, free of charge. This is why Borla is the best exhaust manufacturer ever.

I only got new rubber mounts for mine because that was what broke. I wish my brakets would have broken. The carbon doesn't come off the tips anymore without aluminum polish. :(
