hi, i called sp motorsports to order a walbro fuel pump(155lph), and he told me this one would fit- part #770-M9350A-155
i have been trying to rig this up to work, but have had absolutley no luck. i did accidentally tell them i had a return fuel system, and later found out its returnless, i saw the feed back fuel system on the window sticker and got confused. but i had heard before, that they used the same fuel pump, but maybe not. if anyone could help, and/or has the right one for my car and would wanna trade or sell theirs, please let me know asap!!!!!!!!!! i have a 2000 cougar atx

No it does not fit and requires quite a bit of modification to work. It also will cause your car to run VERY rich.

The worst side effect of a high flow pump is surging, but will never cause your car to run rich, the pressure transducer will stop flow before it will let it get out of spec. Took me 3 months to convince myself of that troublshooting my SC 3L

The 155 pump is not designed for returnless, it may work for awhile but the voltage flucations will wear it out faster then one designe dto handle the voltage fluctuations.

From what I understand Walbro pumps are made to work with variable rate voltages (returnless style pump) or constant rate voltages (return style pump). The samp pump will work on a return or retunless fuel system because of this flexibility and should not burn out prematurely.

Could very well be, because I know 3000GT's use the same pump I have and they are return. However I was just going from muscle motors who said that they have a retun 190 LPH and a returnless 190LPH and I understood it as two different pumps. Coming from that source though it wouldn't surprise me if they were the same pump!

Kinger and Puck Puck .. you are so right.. the pumps for return and returnless are NOT interchangeable..

when I called muscle motors, they also told me they were different but by name only, and that the part numbers are actually the same.... so i guess we should just not quote them anymore

well, i got the pump to work great, no surging, nothing at all, bt i have a check engine light because, the little ring that holds the access cover on got a little bent up, but i rigged it on there temporarily, and ordered a new one from ford. i think there must be a sensor sensing pressure in there!

oh, and also, i did all of this, totally replumbed all the fuel lines inside the tank, the install, everything, without even dropping the tank!!!! how nice huh!!!

one more weird thing also, when i got the walbro pump, i didnt think it would fit, so i grabbed the stock fuel pump out of my 94 integra rs, and they are almost identical, perfect fit if you ask me!!!!! but i wasnt sure on the flow of the integra one, so i decided not too use it. just some info for you people.....

Okay... i had the pump on for like 6 months and my car ran WAY rich.... it would spit fuel outa the exhaust sometimes... and yes it backfired. BLACK soot on everything including my bumper. Its too hot for the cougar... im sorry guys I know it works but it doesnt work right. Its definatly NOT a direct fit. She should order one of those stock pumps and be done with it. Its cheaper and will simply WORK. The eec has set perameters that can as we all know be changed... fuel pump voltage is one of them (returnless only) but its not without bounds. It can only operaterate within a certain set of perameters for any given function. The walboro pump is WAY hoter then the stock pump and the eec WILL NOT bring it down to the same level as the stock pump. Perhaps is has the ability... but that does not mean it will. All data types have bounds... could you imagine what happens when your cars computer overuns a buffer?

Unless you NEED more fuel why would you put a higher rate pump in?

well, if anyone made a cheap, direct fit aftermarket one, we wouldnt have to worry about this would we?
the stock pumps suck. period. i have a 93 accord with 180k miles on it, and still has the stock fuel pump, and still runs perfect, better than my g/f's stupid cougar, her car had 44k miles, and the pump went out, its been screwed up since about 25000 miles, so it would be a complete waste of time to install another stock one in my opinion. i would honestly take my accord over this cougar if i had to choose, the cougar has been in the shop wayyyy too many times for how new it is, and i know this isnt the only cougar that has been either. so, and im sure the walbro fuel pump will way outlast the stupid car anyway, which will prolly be a couple years at the most!!!!
