i've been looking around, as i am giving serious thought to making my cougar into an svt cougar, and i was wanting to make sure i had my facts straight.

the differences between the standard 2.5l duratec and the svt 2.5l duratec is:

60 mm throttle body
70 mm mass air sensor (already on my 2002?)
dual Extrude Hone upper intake manifold
lower intake manifold (already on my 2002?)
cams (with different angles moving the powerband up)
pistons (for higher compression)
bigger fuel injectors
different computer which allows a higher redline

ON A SIDE NOTE: does anyone know how much hp these duratecs can take before they start ruining internal components.

take the MAF and LIM off the list... The heads are hand picked so they are most likely a little better as far and ported and polished. I believe the exhaust is a little different too but nothing major

Just as a rice warning, even putting a SVT engine straight from a SVT car would still not make the car an SVT. As if you put a Cobra engine in a neon. While chaning those part would be a good idea and make it faster, I wouldn't use any SVT badging. SVT didn't do a cougar, kinda like civics shouldn't be a "Type R" Thats just me since I'm very anti-rice.

figured i would jump in here to stand up for my ricey friends. they DID make a type r civic. maybe you should rephrase that quote to something like 'kinda like civics shouldn't be a "type-s' ". the type-s being a version of the rsx, it's still honda, but not a civic. i'm not saying this to start a flame war, just informing :)

anyhow, why not just do the 3.0 upper swap. from what i've read so far it is getting about the same gains as the svt upper intake manifold, throttle body, etc.. with a price tag a lot cheaper. this is the route i'm going

for the amount of money you'll spend doing all that, you might as well go 3.0...

i mean, is it really better to say SVT Cougar on the back of your car, or This (http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/attachments/badging.jpg)? :)

what does 3.0 upper swap mean exactly? cheaper? how? lt looks difficult!
I am newbie.

i'm with him what all is involved in the 3.0 uim swap, the svt uim was a direct bolt on, but i'm not paying what customcougars.com wants for the thing. For twice as much i could just have the whole dang svt engine.

I've been wondering that for a long time. How come, if you put on all those SVT parts, you won't get all the power the SVT engine has. Doesn't it make like 200 HP? So wouldn't everyone on here with the SVT conversion be making 200 HP at the crank. Why will the Cougar engine make less power? Is it something to do with the ECU, or what. Just wondering.

the 3.0 upper how to is in "how to" it's pretty detailed so as long as you have a day or 2 to do it and allow for any problems to become aware you should be fine. just dont do it the night b4 u have to drive your coug. some say the stock 2.5 cams build power quicker than svt cams, but the svt cams allow for higher rpms.

The SVT 2.5 Engine also includes Lighter SVT flywheel and a gippy SVT clutch. Also stiffer SVT motor mounts.

The 200 crank hp the SVT2.5 has is due to ALL the combined parts, which includes its higher compression.

By all means if you spend the money to slap a full SVT motor or a 3.0 engine. Put that SVT or 3.0 badge on the rear of your car so thank punk in the "TypeR" Eclipse will know what kicked his ass.
