View Full Version : IT Runs! :)

After a day of installing, checking, double checking and triple checking, IT RUNS!
I cannot express how well this engine goes in. Its like a glove, it dropped right in with no issues at all. Took
all of 30 minutes to get it in, and on the mounts.
A few hours of hooking up things, filling with vital fluids, installing my new front brakes, bleeding clutch, hooking up the exhaust, etc it was ready to fire.
It started like usual, ran a little rough for about a minute, then smoothed out.
After 10 minutes of idling, it took it for a little spin around the parking lot, and all seems well.
No leaks, no major probs at this point. I still have to decide how I want to tune it ( I have MAFterburner currently not installed ).
I would really like a custom dyno tuned chip, but I need to research this a little more.
Anyways here is the finished product:

Props!

awesome. congrats, man...
question... did you end up putting the DMD on before you put the engine back in the car?

Woo Hoo!! Did you replace the clutch at the same time? If so give that some break in then drive it like you stole it! Glad it went froma bare block to running in 2 weekends! Have fun!

congratulations!!!!!
now maybe you can convince me into doing something similar instead of selling my cougar :)

what kind of power difference did you see. I imagine a MUCH better power band, tons more power off the line, at what RPM do you reach max power (I assume you are running the SVT cams)?? I can't wait to do mine... I see you have the injen intake also but with a different air filter. How much of a difference did that different air filter make (is it worth changing)??
Congrats,
Mark

DMD was on the engine for dropping it in. It seemed to slip right in.

Centerforce Clutch, Fidanza FLywheel :)

Lets see. I just spent a LARGE sum of money on this project. I have less than half a mile on the engine! Do you think I started it and beat the piss out of it? There will be at least 1000 miles driven where this engine does not see above 3000 rpm, and the clutch doesn't see a large load. So I cannot answer the question.
I do have SVT cams, and I hope to make power to about 7000rpm, however the stock limiter is at 6750 (soon to be raised).
The Injen MAF adapter will be soon ditched for a larger unit, and I am currently running an AFE full stack filter.

unfortunately, that dork cougargt doesn't have a warranty he can abuse, so i imagine he's gonna take it easy for a while.

My chip is on its way; FedEx Overnight from Street Flight.
Chris (Keyser from CEG) made me a flip chip with 2 programs to help get this thing running (one has a 10% increase in fuel over the other).
No more PreCat monitors, cooling fans kick on 10 degree's sooner, 7600 rpm limiter, 19 lb injectors, scaled for the 3.0L displacement, 10% reduction in timing advance (for dynoing purposes). Once I get the chip, and get the car broken in, I can send the chip back for any fine tuning that is found neccessay from the A/F graph at the dyno, and get the timing adavanced if so desired.

Your a smart man, I am having Keyser make a custom chip made as well to work out a few things. Should be here by Friday. Becareful of that 7600 rpm limiter the tach is so slow that I have slammed into and it only said 6200! (mine is limited to 7200) That is just with the sho shop flywheel, with the fidenza I imagine its worse! I'll have to rig up a hidden shift light to give me fair warning. Have you been driving her at all?

I've been waiting for it to be tuned somewhat correct before driving. I don't want to risk anything!
It only been around the parking lot once, but I let it idle for about 25 minutes this past weekend to get it up to operating temperature, and to help bleed the air from the cooling system.
Hopefully tommorow night I will be driving the beast :)

Wow that is probably the smoothest 3L install I have ever heard of. Hopefully no problems result after you hit the highway. Really this was like a 3 weekend mod with lots of time in between waiting for other services, not bad man not bad. :)

So when are we all going to meet up. WI, MN and IA :) We need a 3.0L midwest chapter. How much for the chip? I was going to have my apexi tuned on the dyno but they can't adjust timing with it. I might have to give him a call. I just got my headers today with the new jet hot coating. Wow they look good! This thing is going to fly.
BTW Kinger you better give me a ride this weekend.

This is a great idea. I know of at least 4 3.0L's within the midwest. Perhaps we could get together this summer for a meet. Otherwise I plan to attend the nationa CEG meet later this summer.

Congrats on a job well done man! 3 weekends, man, that was quick! A buddy and I dropped a WRX engine into his 2.5rs, that took the better part of 4.5 months! So to see a job like this done in 3 weekends, props to you!
