Okay, so I know I m going to catch a ton of shiat for this, but personally I hate the Matrix in general. I've seen the movie like 3 times cuz my cuzs and friends at school love it, but personally I didnt like it at all. Just not my type though, nothing against the movie, I just didnt like it. I love action movies but that one just didnt appeal to me. So I can totally believe for myself that Matrix Reloaded would suck. Sorry guys, now everyone is going to hate me.... :banhim:

John just because you couldn't understand it doesn't mean you have to slam it.....

I'm with John. I thought the original came across as a good first draft of a movie. Good visuals, good concepts, TERRIBLE script, and lots of boring scenes stringing together lots of great scenes. It needed a good cleanup.

That being said, Daywalker, you're the first "non-press" person I've heard that has this opinion. This is a quote from my friend Brian, who is the current writer of Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-Man at Marvel Comics:

"and good lord effin' god i have no idea what is going on with this internet attack on this movie!! this is a damn fine piece of sci fi that doesn't repeat the first movie but builds on it and f***s with it.
smart script, original action. ideas and concepts way over the head of most of the audience, which is certainly something i would rather sit through then ARMAGEDDON you dishonest human being harry knowles!
hope you all enjoy it, see it again, and i am looking forward to the discussions that follow."

Maybe I should explain why I hated it, without giving any spoilers.
1st of all there was just no way in hell the movie could ever live up to it's hype, that being said after 4 years it was a huge let down. Certain scenes went on waaaaaaaaay too long. There is a 15 minute car chase scene( no embelishment, its actually 15 minutes long), thats way too long for one scene in any movie.
My biggest grype with the movie are the fight scenes, they are long drawn out and go no where. The martial arts that are used in the movie are out of date.In the fight scenes with neo everyone is wearing black, so you cant tell what the hell is going on, all you see is arms and legs flailing around.
I also think it's more fun in any action movie when the hero is vulnerable in some kind of way, Neo can freaking walk on water, there's nothing he can't do!
I thought the story was alright, but maybe this is one of those movies that the idea was so original it loses its shock factor with the 2nd and 3rd.

Well time will tell...I sure wont try to see it this weekend due to a billion people but I will say this; It will have to be amazing to overtake X2. I thought X2 was a very cool movie. They sure like to change things about the characters when they make the transition from the books to the big screen but overall I think it was well done. The characters were cool, and if you grew up reading the comics it was pretty neat to see if their translation of how the superpowers would have worked in real life was close to what your imagination thought. I liked the first matrix...hope the second doesnt bomb cuz isnt the third one comming out in the fall or something?

I saw X2 .. it was good. But here is the difference between X2 and the first matrix and a few other movies.

I actually paid to see the Matrix two or three times when it came out. Thats how much i loved it.

X2 nah.. saw it .. wait for DVD.

I agree with Sled, X2 was great because it was one of the few sequals that was better than the original.

In general I have to disagree with daywalker, overall I thought the movie was pretty good. I only found one of the fight scenes to be too long and had horrible computer animation, also the overall sound track for the movie was not the best. But the movie overall was enjoyable. I would recommend seeing it.

X2 was great.

A must see is equilibrium, it just came out on DVD/VHS. It is absolutely awesome, it was not shown in many theaters but it should have been the action movie of the year in my book. If you enjoy X2, the matrix, or the book "A Brave New World", you will enjoy this movie. The fight scenes are incredible, if you don't believe me download the trailer for it off the web. :)

I liked the first Matrix and my friends and I got to see the Matrix Reloaded at 10:20pm the day before
it offically came out and we loved it. Except for the lame ass love scene everything else was great.
All I have to say is we all have our opinions and if there wasn't as much fighting then someone would've
said damn there wasn't enough action. I loved it
By the way did you guys see the trailer for the 3rd one?
If you see the movie in theatre stay until the credits are done rolling and everything stops
right when you think you sat there for nothing the trailer for the 3rd Matrix comes up. It looks bad ass too.
I liked X2 alot. The ending was cool (over the lake) p.s. that gives nothing away about the movie!

Hey, it's cool, you don't have to agree with me. I'm glad someone enjoyed it. Maybe I watch things too closely when it comes to fight scenes, because that's what bothered me the most about the movie.
But didn't you find it hard to follow whenever Neo was in a fight scene with Agent Smith? Everyone was in black and you couldnt make out what was going on.
Oh well, I can't beleive I'm the only one who hated it.

nadthomas
05-17-2003, 02:16 AM
Yeah that's the scene I really didn't like. My biggest complaint about that scene is the horrible computer animation, I thought I was watching a cartoon. I think due to the fact that it was computer animated use lose some of the depth and variations in color and it makes it hard distinguish one person from another.

But if you are the type of person who would generally enjoy a movie like the matrix, go out and rent or purchase (i did :) ) equilibrium. That movie will not let you down. I only wish I had seen equilibrium after Matrix Reload because equilibrium raises the bar for Sci-
Fi Action movies. In all honesty Matrix Reload did not meet that bar, but still was a decent movie. Let me know if you like it.

DAYWALKER
05-17-2003, 02:20 PM
I keep hearing about that movie, I think I will rent it.
You also brought up another good point, Matrix Reloaded just didn't live up to the hype, plus the fact that you waited 4 years to see it.

On a somewhat similar note I rented both Enter The Matrix and Wolverine's Revenge for the PS2. Now I have seen X2 (awesome) but have yet to see the Matrix Reloaded but from what I have heard I think it may end up being hoky as well. As the video games stand the Wolverine game is nothing but amazing. Looks cool, plays cool, sounds cool. The Matrix game I am still up in the air on. Sure they used real actors and the cinematics are actual people but it's kinda dull. I dunno maybe the deeper into it you get it gets better but it's kind of annoying when it asks you to save every time you enter a new room basically. Ugh. Anyway thats it for today's issue of Nerd News.

I am a matrix fan. I liked it. It was very different than the first one, but I mean its a filler movie basically to bridge the gap between the first one and the last one. I think it will grow on me.

I thought the movie was awesome!!
The movie was suppose to end where the machines are taking over. In any good trilogy (actually there only good trilogy Star Wars), the middle movie is the most abstract.
I agree that the Neo vs. Smith ^10000 was a little to computer generated, and less believable.
But the rest of the movie has so much dimension and depth.

Don't let some fat ass lame movie critic give you bad feeling towards a movie that went over his head. The movie was great. You don't have to believe me, see it for your self!

Just my o two

Had the choice between Reloaded and X2 and decided on X2. Lisa and I liked it, not my favorite movie of all time, but a good flick.

ye, i haven't seen The Matrix2 yet... and i am DEFFINATLY looking forward to seeing it with friends tomorrow...

BUT

I think the first one was just soo good, it had an excellent story, action, all that stuff, and it had an ending! -neo became "the one" and that was that.
I can't see how the second one can have the same good storyline, and the same action / stunts without going WAY overboard - and from the comercials, it looks like they've done just that :(

the scene on the roof in Matrix 1 - where they rotate around Neo as the bullets are flying - that was amazing!

but in the commercial, they show three seperate scenes with that "effect" - its amazing, but i hope they aren't relying on that effect for alot of the scenes.

oh well! I'll find out tomorrow! :)

Okay, I'm back. And all ready to offer my 2¢.

So I think I liked this movie a LITTLE better than the original Matrix- which ain't hard, since I hated the original Matrix.

This film had a lot of the same elements that made me hate the original Matrix, but the good parts were a lot better.

My favorite bits (trying not to spoil):

Trinity (rrrRRRRRROOWWWWwRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr)...

Neo vs Smith in the schoolyard- awesome. I thought a lot of the kung-fu was pretty lackluster (felt this way about the last movie, too), but when it progreses to wire-fu, I'm so there. And the progression from wire-fu to CGI actually didn't bother me too much. It was a fun scene to watch.

Car chase. Man we've never seen a car chase THAT over-the-top. Sure, there have been more harrowing or realistic car-chases in movie history, but for sheer outrageousness- this takes the cake. And the collision at the very end of it- even though it was 100% CGI- was mag-NIFICENT.

My gripes:

That French guy. At least Monica Bellucci was there to keep you interested.

Larry Fishburne. What happened to that guy? He is world-class bad. WORST. DELIVERY. EVER. And he's getting pudgy...

And my biggest gripe: TOO MUCH PHILOSOPHY. It's fine to have a high-concept film, but you do NOT need several minutes of boring exposition after EVERY SCENE CHANGE, just to make sure your fans "get it". This made the dialogue suffer, and slowed the pacing of the movie CONSIDERABLY. That's another gripe I had with the first Matrix. It would have been SO much more effective to keep the dialogue natural, use lines that sound like people actually TALKING instead of reading hundred-year-old texts. Keep the concept under the surface, leave it to the viewer to discover. I mean, are they REALLY that worried that people will miss the point? 80% of the fans are just going in for the visual effects anyway.

So anyways, I was disappointed again, but entertained by the exploding semi's.

Out of fairness I saw it again, and still didn't like it, sorry.
Overdone on the speacial effects. I don't agree that the story went over anyones head, ( I understood it, and I'm a moron). I got the whole ghost and werewolves thing in relation to the twins and that french guy's bodyguards, I was just left wondering why all this stuff was crammed into the movie for no reason. I hope I didn't spoil anything for anyone, but for you people who did see it, don't tell me that the scene towards the end of the movie with Trinity and Neo was anything other that total bull****. If this guy can do that, why doesnt he split himself in 2 and go through both doors.
(again im being as vague as possible as to not spoil it for those who havent seen it).

I was somewhat dissapointed as well... but I gotta say the car chase and the bike chase was fantastic... when Neo jumps on that Saturn and it blows apart I almost lost it.. damnit that was COOOOOL! I liked the comment about the French guy wearing lipstick.. I think the whole theatre heard my reaction.. that has never happened before since I saw Boogie Nights in the theatre and they show his weiner at the end... it was dead silent in the joint except for me

We saw it last night and we both enjoyed it. Like the first one I will need to see it a couple more times to soak everything up. I look at movies as nothing more then entertainment, and I was very entertained.

ND4SPD
05-21-2003, 02:57 PM
yep, just saw it last night... and like most people here, was kinda dissapointed.

was waaaay too confusing for me at some parts, i saw it with a friend who had already seen it once, and even HE was still unsure of a few things.
that whole part with the "architect" is a blur to me... i cant remember one word he said that i understood...
i also think they were kinda "over using" that slow-down-time effect thingy... but DAMN is it ever cool though!!

i think my main problem was with the man who can basically walk on water now... Neo... all he did the whole movie, was fight, and get it on with Trinity... which is fine... but he had like NO storyline in this movie (compared to the first)

that car chase kicked ass for sure though :)

Edit- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! after reading what M was saying over on CarolinaNeco, i understand a bit more
man... this is deffinatly a movie you have to "think" about while watching... heh, i usually just watch movies for fun, i guess i gotta go see it again now that i know what to look for.

The movie takes place over a few days after the 1st one (1st one was about 1-2 weeks), the 3rd one will be the same day into the next.

This is bascially a last minute thing where they've now found "The One" and need to hurry defeating The Matrix before the machines tunnel down (in the movie they said they only had a few hours before the machines made it). So now that the pressure is on and everyone is scurrying around all this new info is being discovered where they once could never go without Neo's power. Thus the feeling of over-information during the scene with the french guy & the Architect at the end, nobody knew this stuff (so we think) about "glitches" and "rouge programs" before Neo kicked-ass up the chain of command.

Well finally saw it and all I can say is

Eh.

It was neither awesome nor terrible. The first movie is wayyyyyyy better. But oh well. It's another example where I believe filmmakers should just realize that it's too hard to cram that much information into under 2 hours. Let the movies go longer. I don't care. I could easily sit through a 4 hour movie because when you are in the theater you have no comprehension of time. But alas is not to be.
