I think that would be a tight idea with the taillights i am trying to make.

I just mentioned that in another post, someone posted a pic of the puma tail light, and I said it looked like there is an angel eye around the light. I think it would be sweet, it would just have to be bright enough to see through the red taillight. Plus it would have to be either white or red, because if you put blue or green or any other color in there it will look funny through the red cover. Orange would work too I guess. Something to think about.

Did you actually do it already? Or is that a chop?
Edit- :slap: wait a minute...I assume if it was done the brake lights would be on

Not sure what you mean by that...you can wire them into something that's always on when your lights are on, like the license plate lights or something...so the brakes wouldn't have to be on. I don't know if he already did it or not, looks like a chop though. Interesting idea, I have them up front so I may have to do this too, when I feel ambitious enough to do it again. It wasn't hard, but just a pita.

He is asking if anyone thinks it possible, so i assume he hasnt done it and its a chop. DO you know how hard it is to get those covers off without breaking anything? Pretty damn hard. I will prolly attempt this when i custom make my taillights. hopefully i will have the time to do this very soon. Just need to buy me a damn dremel.

I have a spare taillight that I'm doing this to. I'm removing the actual red cover tho.
My idea is to take the whole red part off & paint the inside black or the color of your car. Then trim the boobies so they fit into the "cups" of the open taillight and place a halo inside that. I've been using a Dremel to cut off the red but it eats up my discs and has an ungodly smell of melting plastic.

Why in the heck r u using a dremel, there is a much easier way to get the red covers off.

It's what I have, what do you recommend? They don't come apart like the headlights.

I love that smell  j/k
I used two fine(very small) tipped straight screw drivers. Kept prying little by little and then there is a big *POP* and they come apart. On both side there are a few small chips that broke off but can be glued back on and will be coverd by the tail light covers.

Helping us get them apart isnt really going to have anything to do with making your lights custom, or stealing ideas. Thanks for the help. Looks like people are finally getting around to trying new things with these lights. Im going to be picking up a set shortly and my friend and i have a crazy idea if we could just figure out how to get it to work.

Well, my idea is to make altezza style tail lights with mine. I am gonna be opening up the taillights and coving them with a clear plastic that will be molded exactly like the boobies. I am gonna be making a mold for these also. I am then gonna paint the insides gloss black, and make a somewhat-altezza taillight. The angel eyes on the back would be sweet, and i will attempt this as well.

Well, I'm not doing anything close to that so don't worry about me stealing that idea...care to share how you popped yours off then?

Heat. I havent actually done it myself on the taillights, but my friend puts them on a cookie sheet with a towel under the lights and puts them in the oven. I dont know the temperature or how long. I did this to my foglights for 5 minutes at 150 degrees and got those open with a little force. But i dont think the tails would open with that little temperature. But anyways HEAT.

I know that you can 'bake' your headlights for 15 minutes at 300 to open them with little to no work.... so maybe it's the same for the tails?

i did it last year(with bubbles) and it looks like crap. the assemblies behind are not very good looking. having the red cover is much more appealing imo. but if you really want clear tails, i could try and find the molds used for the vacuum form. email me.

anyone successfully do this yet? i wanna see pics.
