ok i'm graduating high school sunday ( thank you thank you), and i am having a party so i am prolly going to pull in a lil under a grand or so.

well with the $5.56 i have in my back account plus that cash, i wanna invest atleast some of it in my car. i'm eiteh going to a) put on rims b) toss in a system

my friend is giving me a sweet deal on a pair or shocker subs. they retail at something around 900 a peice or something and are competition subs. he is selling me one good one for $250. he also has a blown one which will cost me $125 to be re-coned. but they need a 1000 watt amp which will run me a another $300

any suggestions?

Rims will cost you over that grand... and a system is nice, but I think my one 12" not nicest model rockford sub is overkill sometimes. If I were to do stereo, it'd be dual rockford or jl 10"s at MOST, and id also replace my 4 speakers with high quality component speakers... at least up front. Also take a CD youre familiar with to a car audio dealer and listen to a few different head units... they really do sound different. Circuit city isnt optimal either cuz there's people talking and other stereos blaring noise off in the distance and stuff to cancel out the potentially full evaluation.

Before upgrading anything else, I just HAD to have reverse indiglo gagues first (see link in profile). In fact I had them shipped to my house before I even ever owned my cougar. That was a major thing for me in terms of personalization and interior comfort. My stereo came a soon second. I had my 12" from my Volvo ( ) and its amp... and I financed my sony MEX-5DI, a stereo install kit, a small old floor model rockford 4ch amp, kenwood excelon 6x8 rears and MBQuart discus component fronts all for just over $1000 and im still paying it off.

Stereo boom is cool, but it can become too much quickly and only about a 3rd of total improvment in sound quality is realized. Also, competition subs are designed for SPL, the amount that air is compressed by the subs within the vehicle... That's not to say they reproduce entirely accurately musical bass.

It sounds like the stereo's important to you... and it was for me too, but if you were thinking of performance upgrades, for under $700 you could have a new y-pipe (group buy's for a Brullen are going on at CEG for under $300, nice gains) and that Trubendz thats in your profile.

Dont let it burn a hole in yr pocket! think about what youd be happier with in the long run, for yourself.

edit: and youre DEFINATLY going to have a hard time finding a 1000watt amp for $300 that isnt 70% distorted circuit watts. $300 1000 watt pyramid and boss amps and stuff like that are bigger versions of that "45w x 4" amp inside your head unit.

Unless your going for the "hear me 5 blocks away" sound that system sounds like overkill, price & size wise. Plus, you'll need to pad some parts of the trunk because parts like the license plate frame & plastic trunk interior will rattle.

I have a Boston Acoustic 10" Competitor, 150w Cobalt Amp, Kenwood z919 Headunit and Boston Acoustic 6x9 RE620's w/separate tweeters in the front (stocks in back). The system is LOUD in the car. Outside, you can just hear the music & bass hits. Walk about 10-20ft away and you barely hear it, stick your head in the car and it hurts. I bought the amp, sub, box & HU used and by hunting around both on the boards & Ebay I paid a total of around $800 for everything. Plus I still have my trunk space!

If I were to sink a grand into my car I would definitly put it towards rims, then a little out of my pocket in case I go over. Save for what you want, not what you can afford. The current rims on my car cost me $1,200 new. But that's because I bought the tires seperatly so it cost me more both through shipping & mount & balance. But I think if you look around you can find some nice deals on a rim & tire package for under $1,000. Check out the Velox group buy going on in the Group Buy section- 17's w/tire for like $800. The car will look, ride & feel nicer.

Check out the CougarDB link in my sig for pics of my rims & trunk.

Congrats on graduating.

The boston 10" Comps are definatly nice, especially in their factory sealed box with the tuned passive radiator on the back. The voicecoil packed it in on mine tho, and they wanted $100 to fix it, which is what made me go with the $100 Rockford and a friends used sealed box.

you most likely can do 6x9s you just have to bore out the mountiing hole.. .5 inches on each side. and get some self tapping screws hook it up and pound those 6x9's

well i already have a sony explode head unit (mx-6000) or something, regardless its a couple years old but high quality. and $250 for the sub, 400 for an amp max adn i already have the car wired and that is with a box.

but rims would be nice, but seems too impracticle...then i see my stock 15's adn i wanna cry so i donno.

i don't think i will go performance cause i don't trust myself, maybe a chip and exhaust but that would be it

Say you go with an exhaust & intake, just to give the car a nice sound. A chip won't do you much good, especially on an MTX, unless you have heavy modifications. They do wonders for the ATX's tho.

6x9's fit, when Gary helped me install them there was some drilling into the door frame to mount them. Unfortunatly it's hard to fit the crossovers the 620's come with and they're kinda shoved in.

If you don't want rims then maybe consider buying someones stock 16's or 17's, I'd go w/the 17's because they have the Cougar head in the centercap & look nice on their own. People are always trying to unload them in For Sale cheap. You can then buy some real nice tires for them and have a bit of both worlds: no more crappy 15's and tires that stick better than crappy stocks. Just keep your 15's around for winter tires, that's what I did.

All I have right now are intake and exhaust, and it's pretty quick. Sounds hot too.

GO FOR THE EXHAUST!!!! Once you slap a sweet sounding exhaust on.......ta heck with the sound system, you'll be listening to some sweet sounds coming from the back of your car.

Furious1 is selling his borla for $400. You may want to check that out or go to Trubenz and tell Josh what you're looking for.

Good luck with the mods and CONGRATS on graduating.:)
