well I'm finally having the car painted. And as some pointed out "You couldn't do it any worse"

So i'm doing just that. A guy on my teams forums offered to paint the car for $50 and I buy all material and I help him. So we're planning for next week b\c it has to be at least 70 out and light breeze as we are using his garage and leaving the main door open for ventilation during spraying. Some of you might have seen the color I posted in vids/pics......I posted the selected paint chip. Hopefully it'll be done for can-am....if not we'll have a repeat of the "ghetto" cougar like at CF last year.

Hey Carl --

Hope it works out... it didn't really look at that bad before, but it should look good once it's done.

Good luck!

Good for you Carl. I don't know if my car will be complete for Can-Am either, so we can sit around in our ghettoness.

But for Cougarfest, look out!

GREAT NEWS: I'm getting the supply estimate tomorrow but shouldn't be more then $500 total. We start preping Wednesday and the car will be ready for me to pick up Saturday night. Just in time for Can-am baring any issues coming up. Only down point is that I can't polish or wetsand it until the following monday, so there will be some minor bumps and imperfections until then....and keep in mind it's a garage paint job done by ME and not pro's.......

A word of warning:

I don't know how experienced your painter is, but make sure you are familiar with the hazards of the materials. Isocyanate hardner in urethane clear (such as chroma clear, from dupont) is very dangerous stuff. Their documents require positive pressure-supplied air respirator.

When I took the class at BOCES, we used chemical cartridge respirators in the spray booth, and I still got a touch of pneumonia from the stuff (some people are more sensitive than others). I was sick for a month. I'm not sure, but I think the fumes caused it.

Good luck with the painting.

Just posting again, because I'm tired of being a nubie.

thats classic

I do remember he's going to be using the chroma dupont paint. I dunno what he's using for respiration, I'll ask him and make sure he's safe. Myself I'm not doing any painting.

And lets just hope the weather holds out so I can have it painted by sunday...(it's predicted to storm sunday)
