I'm looking to have the vortech supercharger kit installed on my car but I dont have any idea who does good work and was hoping you guys would have some suggestions. I live in Maine and am aware that I will have to travel since there is no shops around here (that i know of) that could do a quality install so just as long as the shop is east of the mississippi river it'd be fine. Also I'm looking for the best price for the SC kit...
ANy and all help is much appreciated
thanks,
-dawg

you would be MUCH better of installing it yourself.

I PM'd you with the info. If you install it yourself you are more familiar with it's operation and can pinpoint any problems. However, there have been lots of people on CEG (some with horror stories) who have had it successfully installed by a professional. It's all about your cost/benefit and how comfortable you feel doing mechanical work to your engine.

To answer your question: it took me 4 full days of work to get mine in. I could do it in 3 now that I know what needs to be done, but estimate 10 days of work so you don't get frustrated. Take it nice and slow, and NEVER rush. Rushing will result in mistakes.

Another option would be to find a mechanic from your friendly neighborhood Mercury dealer who does work "on the side". I spent a lot of time getting to know the people at my dealer (which has provided GREAT benefits in terms of getting work done under warranty and getting the LOWEST price possible on parts...they give them to me at COST now). I found one guy in particular after asking around that works out of a small garage in the back of his house. He does all sorts of work there on his days off. Not only is he VERY familiar with the Cougar (and its failings), but he has connections to source out work and parts as well. I have had him help me out with MANY projects on my car. The best thing is that he has ALL the tools to complete any job and he works at SERIOUSLY discounted prices. For example, when I bumped a curb at cracked my front clip, I managed to crack my evaporator to my a/c system. The dealer wanted $1200 to replace the unit (they said it couldn't be reapired) and the labor involved. I took it to him, and he took the evaporator out to his friend with a radiator shop...they repaired it for him (for like 50 bucks) and he reinstalled in and even had the equipment to evacuate and recharge the a/c system. Total cost to me...$150!
Something to keep in mind,
Charles

I realize Colorado is probably too far for you to drive, but... I got mine installed by a guy named Tom at TPR in Littleton/Denver, Colorado. If your willing to drive that far and pay for 12 hours or so of work at $80 an hour it would defiantly be worth it. It took him a while longer on my car since he has never done one before, but he said he could do it again much faster now that he knows what it involves. He is one of the most knowledgeable mechanics I have ever met and he's not arrogant which is a very rare combination. If you want him to do it for you or if you just have a question about pricing give him a call... 303-781-9449.
