Are replacement Y-Pipes really worth it? i know you can get high flow cats or remove it completely with new y-pipes but i was talkin to my exhaust guy and he said he could just replace my cat for 150 bucks...thats a big difference then spending 460 on a whole new y pipe. any info?

You'd still be using your smaller diameter Y-Pipe. Aftermarket ones are 3" and offer more flow.
It will go back down to the smaller diameter sooner or later right? Unless you did 3in all the way back, it will bottle neck somewhere.
And as i understand 3in is too big unless you have blower, turbo..ect. And having 3in can even be worse since the velocity of the air will be so much slower, reducing thermal efficiency.

The TruBendz(YoDude) Y-Pipes and BAT and others are 2.5". Match that with a 2.5" Cat-Back, and you have a nice fat pipe all the way back. Along with the high-flow cat. Should make for some good gains.
EDIT: I personally like the design of the BAT Y-Pipe, because it goes from two 2" pipes to one dual 2" inlet cat then out to 2.5" to match the cat-back exhaust.

...and don't have the ridiculous restrictive bend in them that the stock pipe has...crawl under your car sometime and take a look - the guy who designed it must've been getting paid by the foot (of metal) he used.

I believe that bend is there for a reason. Since the individual exhaust runners(is that what they're called?) are of different lengths, the u-bend lengthens one so that exhaust pulses from opposite banks don't meet at the y at the same time.
Did I make any sense?

Ive been under the car before but... What's the stock ypipe like? I remeber seeing this copper colored almost 90° thing with a flat bottom... Is that what yr talking about?

That's the front manifold.
The funniest part of the stock y-pipe is the piece that comes off the back manifold. It almost dos a little loop-the-loop. That yodude looks nice and simple...

The U-bend is there for a reason. It's a tuned bend that helps match the pulses from the front & rear cylinder. I has actually been dyno-proven to raise mid range power vs a Y-pipe without one.
The 2 major restrictions of the stock Y-pipe are that the two 2" mandrel bent pipes are CRUSHED into a 2" flange.
Your best bet for a Y-pipe is to modify the stock one by cutting out the crush flange and replacing it with a 2.5" flange. This will garner you the best performance and still retain the stock heatshields. (which keep heat away from the oil pan which is HUGE)

There's a link to Tom's (Warmonger) page.
Pics of the Y-pipe mods are down the page a bit.
