I'm coming home from school today on the highway, minding my own business, when a Cavalier comes out of nowhere from the traffic behind me and starts riding my @$$. It wasn't a new cavalier, probably a '99 or '00 model. Anyway, I try to get away from him cuz I HATE people who drive right behind me like that, so I floor it, and I'm not really gaining anything on him, maybe a car length. He gets right back behind me. Everytime there's an opening in the lane next to me he goes in it and tries to pass me up, but there was always another car there goin slow so he got right back behind me. We probably hit 90 a few times, but before I was almost home I said F it and stayed right where I was and he passed me and swerved in and out a few lanes and was gone. The sad part is, I didn't even see a Z24 emblem or 2.4L or nothing on the car. Just "Cavalier"---stock. Everytime I accelerated he kept up with me. What's going on here, are the ones with the red Chevy emblems faster than the ones with the blue emblems??

Its very possible that he could have kept up to you if it was a Z-24. I am a former J-Body owner and they can be quick cars. If it was a 2.2L then something was wrong, they are slow as hell especially the 3 speed auto

Yea, some of use V6'ers don't wear our V6 badge, thus making others think we have the 4 banger models.

even on the highway at 65+mph? Aren't our cars better on the high-end? Even if the cavalier was manual, that would only let him beat me off the line due to quicker shifting no?

Cavies with Manual 2.4Ls are much faster than people give them credit for. i know many guys hitting low 15s with just intakes. and a guy that managed a 15.9 with a stock Auto. :D do the Math 150HP 155lb-ft 2500lbs.

but I highly doubt it was a Z24..don't they have valences on the front, sides, and rear? My mom has a regular '00 cavalier, and I think the Z24s have a little valence in the rear that surrounds the top of the exhaust. This one looked did not have that. I'm pretty sure this was a 2.2L

you said a red badge? the Z on the Z24 comes in red, but of course like rice you can also get it in yellow. Anyways, I believe the Z24 is 140hp/150hp and are pretty quick for what they not seem to be. Never judge a book by its cover.

F off man, I know half the time you guys are joking about it, but I'm really getting sick of seeing that in every thread when Auto's are brought up.

It's not like the cars are 5 seconds slower, oh we run mid to high 16's instead of high 15's, boy we're one second slower, we suck, let's kill ourselves for buying an auto cuz we're just losers. Honestly people, just lay off it a little, I can handle the jabs every once in awhile, but when it comes up on a daily basis it really gets old quick.

cavaliers are 16 second cars (some are faster as stated above), so are atx's...thats all he was saying. dont expect to blow out a 16 second car with a 16 second car.

new Cavs are 16 second cars with the 140HP Ecotec. the 150HP Twin Cam was a bit faster. many people can click off low 15s stock.

ppl who drive autos are too lazy to drive sticks....plus you guys do all cosmetic mods like most ricers anyways so you wouldnt need the extra speed from a stick... so go back to your ugly body kits with 15 inch rims (you know who you are)

and teflon you drive a I4 http://www.mdneco.com/smile/greddy.gif you should stay in your zetec board

TheCouga: Please keep your thoughts about the ATX to yourself, or at least don't be quite as blunt about it;)

Everyone else: Let's keep this on topic and not fuel the fire.

As far as the cavalier goes, my dad has a 98 2.4L auto, and although I am very confident I could beat it in my V6 MTX, I will say that they are very quick, peppy cars.

1. I bought my car because, I was too young to get financed any where besides a Ford Dealership. My family has bought nothing but Fords their entire life and that is why I was made a special exception at my local dealership. This car was not my first choice. My original intention was to purchase a GSX.

2. I dont drive a manual because I have to fight traffic day in and day out going to work and school. So dont even ****1ng tell me Im lazy, because im not. Im only 19. Im sure in a couple years I will be trading/selling my car. However, right now Im just having fun and making best of what I currently have. There also was only one Cougar at this dealership and that was an Auto.

3. I have paid for every damn thing on my car.

My point being, dont open your mouth like that ever again to someone you dont know. Who says I was done with my car anyways? I have only had my car for about a year and Ive come this far. 15 inch rims? No my friend they are 16 :) And yes my next course of action is to get GC Coils, Koni Struts, and upgrade other peices of my suspension along with rims.

Thanks and have a nice day

1. Congrats

2. How nice ....Want a cookie?

3. Some people think my car is ugly and some think that it looks great. I enjoy modding my car, because it is my car. Ugly it up? Well my friend, Ill have a better chance of selling it for more with the things Im doing to it. The resale on Cougars isnt that great in the first place.

So, Im asking you to be mature about this and stop your consistent ATX bashing and stop this petty argument.

Grow up

I can't drive a stick to save my life. They were teaching me at my old job at a dealership on a new cavy and it wasn't pretty. I almost fubared it. And besides...some of us like the show route some of us like to race. Me personally after almost getting busted by the cops I am going to the show route. INfact I am alos a former J-Body owner. 97 Pontiac Sunfire complete POS the cop was coming out of a street right after I started to break, it was not cool. By the way...the Cougar body kits are hot. I will be getting an intake and exhaust for show use thanks to RacerX one of my new sponsors. Fortunately I will not be a racer and blow up my engine just because some lil honda pissed me off. I just say Look at my ride and look at yours.... why would I want to race it and somehow blow my engine or get a nice lil tix to increase my insurance. I like my V6 and would like to keep it in one peice.

So piss off about the people who do cosmetics and like to attend shows ok? Maybe we have common sense.

TheCouga, I can't believe I ever tried to defend you against the e-thugs that were constantly bashing you. I kinda thought that you messed up a while ago, apologized for it, and now everything is cool. But now I can tell that you're nothing but a f$cking troll. Every time someone says something about their ATX you have to come in and slam them for the car they own. It's getting old. As has already been said, some people didn't have much of a choice in the transmission type they got. So why do you feel the need to constantly bash them for their car? In case you hadn't noticed, this is a cougar forum. Not a MTX cougar forum. So I suggest you either shut the f$ck up or get the f$ck out. Cause I, and quite a few other members are tired of hearing your ****.

Everyone has their own reasons for getting the transmission they got. Its not worth arguing about... LOCKED.
