I traded some things with a NECO buddy and got a set of stock exhaust manifolds. I wanted to gut them and remove the inner weld buldge on the front header. Unfortunately, my digital camera is on the fritz and I couldn't get any pictures of the weld before the removal process. Anyone that has seen the before will tell you this is a vast improvement in flow. Below are pictures of the results. Although it's not clear, the inside of the port has a mirror finish now. All that is left is to weld the outside of the flange to the runner since doing this has vastly decreased the integrity of the weld that holds the runners to the flange.

Looking good.

I spent quite some time with my headers doing the exact same thing. Opening the flanges up to meet the exhaust ports.
That and removing all the ridges and welding flash in them.

I couldn't imagine just popping a set on and calling it good!

yeah i did the same to mine also... however i didn't go for the polished look when done... i just removed the weld and made sure it was smooth and was done with it

will prolly hit it some more before installation... i have some new power tools to play with now :)

Yep looking good, I used BNM optimized manilfolds and they looked very good.

Well, they look much better in person ... my digicam is a POS that is on it's last leg

As for the mirror finish ... carbon has a hard time sticking to a surface with little or no "texture" ... this will help with scavaging as less carbon build-up leads to less restriction. By the way ... all done by hand with a Dremel ... had to use two since one would "overheat" and would cool down while the other was on it's way to over heatings . Flapwheels are your friend ... but damn expensive

yeah no flap wheel here... so more reason why no polishing... i have one now though (got a full blown dremmel kit with router thingy for 35$) so I'll prolly mirror it....

Hey those look familiar. ;) I'll have to do that sometime soon to my car.

What do you mean by removing the inner weld bulge. Get some more pics I'd like to see what you've done.
