I was driving back from work tonight, and this red Grand Am GT pulled up behind me at the light. he was revving his engine, and Ifiured "ah whattahell", so when light changed green, we both took off.
Now, I don't know much about them cars, nor those Quad 4(by the sound of his muffler, i figured it was 4 banger) other then you guys talk aboput in here, but they are deffinetly something to be recken with. car surely pulled up next me pretty fast(befor I was in 3rd), but then i started to pull away from him. Very very slowly. by the end of 4th gear, we both started to slow down. I was thinking "ya NECO guys were light. they are pretty fast". but then he pulled up next me again and I had the chance to see the car, and noticed he had a PASSANGER with him! I was by my self. Although, i did win, but I figured i lost... or may be like in movie "fast and furious" - "it don't matter if you win by inch or mile, winning is winning"??

BTW, it was like 96 to 98 body style Grand Am GT with those funny looking tri star wheel on it. dual muffler, ground effect from OEM, 2 door, and MTX.
Mine is 99 MTX with injen, custom dual with no center resonator..

you have no performance mods...if you beat him stock imagine if you actually did some work to the car custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

I didn't think they offered MTX in those years of Grand AM GT...

But, I would like to point out... another NECO member beating a Grand AM in his Cougar. That makes a good couple. I think that should be thrown to the "things we can kill" list.

Very nice race, work some performance modds and really go at it!

yeah the 96-98s had those 3 spoke rims. BTW manual 96-98s only came with the 2.4L (quad4s little brother) 150HP 155lb-ft. if drivin right they can be quick. im not surprised you beat him , a V6 MTX should beat one in those years. even the V6s only had 155HP 185lb-ft. drivin right the 4 cylinders were faster.

make that any 4 cylinder grand am from 1990-1998 is faster than the V6 modles.

the new V6s are strange. some people can only get low 16s out of them...but i know a few guys getting 15.2-15.4s stock. there is this guy in know on a Spec V forum,he says his brothers 99 GAGT ran a 15.1 stock. and always beats his Spec-V.

Grand Am's are a good car to race for us Cats. They are pretty evenly matched (from what I've seen) and it seems to becomes a driver's race (for MTX...obviously ATX you just hit the gas and go...).

yeah I guess it was drivers race really. I was kept thinking where would be the best RPM to shift(i think i was shifting just befor 6000RPM),
while other guy was shifting at the red. Most engine as most of you guys would know that after max power RPM is pasted, start to loose power. And I think thats where I started to pull away from him. i have CF hood on it too, which also means bit less weight as well.

Most grand ams are easy kills... Only ones I watch out for are the GTP's with the ram air not to sure about starting something with them...
