Hey guys, first post here. I currently drive a 93 Ford Probe, base model. I'm getting a new car soon and had it determined down to a Cougar V6 or a Probe GT. I've pretty much decided to go with the cougar as it's newer, leaving less problems to look forward to. I was just wandering on how reliable you guys feel they are and what you don't like about them.

I like it alot...just make sure it hasn't been in an accident or else if you get into one your pretty much screwed timing wise. Mine was pretty much totaled then rebuilt...recently got into an accident in December and the majority of my damage was frame work. still made for some nice aftermarket products. I really like how the Cougar handles and how its so different then your everyday Honda. Its got a lot of style and class. What color will the Cougar be? We have an aftermarket website thanks to James...at www.customcougars.com to find out what we have for our Cougars. Mine has been pretty reliable to me even though I haven't been able to drive it the last 3 months cause of the accident.
I give the Cougar 3thumbs up. Yes I ment to say 3. Its a really sweet looking car and you get alot of "What the f*&^& is that?" kinda question once its been modded. Its a really sweet car and I wouldn't go back to anything else...G'luck with your Cougar and if you have any questions...feel free to ask. All in all I think its one hell of a 5244852 car.

It's going to be black, that's a definite. I really like the 35th anniversary editions. I do want something that's quick, lite and handles well. My probe is EXCELLENT in handling, i've never drove a cougar before but i've heard they still had something to be desired of. I don't car, my atx just went out with 121,000 on it, it's getting rebuilt but i found my cv joints are looking bad. The only thing i don' like about the probes is there so d*mn noisy, there not as sturdy as these newer cars, so I'm going with a cougar. As for aftermarket parts i hope theres a big one, theres a kid at school with a c2 bodykitted, it's nice, got voted best car.

Yea I couldn't agree more...I think its one of the most agressive ones out there since most our honda's stangs and eclipse and they all just look the same after awhile. Its nice to see a different hooked up kinda car around.

Cougars are defenetly great cars. When I got mine, I was really upset. It was a chick's car, automatic, too heavy, ect ect ect. But, I've grown to love it like it was my own son. My GF is constantly jealous. Come summer, I'll be trading in my ATX for an MTX. I'd say your best option is to go for an MTX. It's so much faster. So, I'm lovin' my Cougar. So much. SOOOOOOO MUCH.
Will be alot better than your probe, too!
Welcome aboard!

I'm definitely going with the mtx, my atx in my probe just burn out after 121,000 miles, how are you going to manage swapping, i heard it was a major pain in the butt. Of course it will definitely be better than my probe but my probes a LOT older, i just wish they still made em. Did you guys know probes almost replaced Mustangs? Anyway, thanks for all your commments, i can see this place is cool already. Hopefully I'll be getting to come here more and more, which i will once i get my cougar.

My wife bought a new Cougar (2002) a couple months back. She loves it; I think it looks great, but for me, the headroom is non-existant, and so I'm not real comfortable driving it (not that she would let me).
Are you buying new or used? I think new is the way to go, if you can swing it. We got a $3000 rebate, plus I bought it with a Ford X Plan, so we got it for a real good discount. It had all the Candy (leather; sunroof; etc), and paid a llittle over $17,200.
I would like to hop it up a bit, but people say that chips don't produce much improvement, but may buy a K & N for it.
I guess, all in all, I like it, but will keep my SVT Lightning for myself!!!!!! Lots more shoulder and head room, and very easy to mod.

Finally, another Ford man! Everyone around heres all chevy people. Anyway, I'm going for the 2002 35th Ann. Editions, I want it new and these things are bad *ss. Lightning are definitely a sweet truck, but i'm really wanting a car i can have that looks good and is quick stock. How'd you get that rebate by the way? 3000 bucks isn't a small chunk of change.
I own a 35th anniversary in laser red. The car is beautiful. I purchased the car in september and couldn't be happier. :)

I was surprised by the rebate, too. They brought it up and offered it; assume it's thru Ford, so I'd got to the Ford/Lincoln web site and see what the rebates are. Combined with the X PLan, it was too good a deal to pass up. Got the Lightning on X Plan, too, for like $29,900, instead of the $32,675 list. Bought both cars from the same dealer. My dealer only had one low-end Cougar in stock, but said they could get me anything I wanted. Wifey wanted Laser Red, so they just got on their dealer search (internet) and had one trucked in from another Minnesota dealership. I suggest you find a cooperative dealer and try the same thing.
I'm not necessarily a complete Ford man (have owned two Chev trucks), but whe I found out about the Lightning, I had to have one. The looks on the faces of Ricers and Yuppies when I toast their toys is well worth the gas money. It is an awesome beast from 0-100 MPH.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow, supposedly my mom heard about some deal, and i want a new car BAD! I wouldn't go with the red though, it's just saying "PLease, Pull Me Over", Black my color of choice.

I suggest you learn to drive right... the pedal to the far left is a clutche, push that in to change gears, don't jam them in. Don't drive on the freeway going 95 in 3rd gear for an hour going to work each day.
Ummm yeah sure. first of all 3rd gear doesnt go up to 95, hell 2nd cant even go up to 60. your probably one of those people who got a 5spd because its the cool thing these days. oh but im j/p though ;)
anyway this is my first and last american car i will ever own. cougar does look nice sometimes but its ****ty quality at least from my experiences

At that low mileage either you beat the crap out of it or you didn't keep up with your preventative maintenance. Theres no way it would have done that at such a low mileage if you took babied it, I mean come on, but i guess if you want you can go ahead and buy some foreign junk, just make sure its a bmw or jag, something on that line.
