Hey, I'm new here...see my message in the newbie forum. Anyway, I was driving home from school and I pull up to the light. I see a white Grand Am pull up and I look over and it's my friend. I'm not sure if he wants to go or not because he has his girl with him so I roll down my window and ask him if he wants to go. He says he does so we both start inching up, waiting for the light to change. The light changes and he pulls on me by about half a car at the start. As we keep going I pull on him and beat him by about a car length but start to back off as I come close to 100 (I know I shouldn't have been going that fast but I didn't realize I was until I looked at the speedometer) BTW, both are completely stock (I have no money for mods yet!) Just thought I would share my story and hopefully get to know some of you better!

And what kinda cougar do you have (ATX or MTX)?
Edit: Nevermind... Just saw your post in the newbie forum... Depending on what kinda Grand Am it is, that's pretty cool you were able to beat him with an ATX.

Nice kill! Grand AMs are too FAT for their own good. Heavy things.
I made a post a while back, beat a Grand AM GT too :)
Got ATX myself (for the time being), with some mods, and I was able to get a carlength at 70. They're still pretty quick... and very torquey off the line.
Anywho, good kill again, just try not to speed so much!

Ya, as soon as I saw the speedometer, I was like "oh ****!" LOL. Luckily I slowed down immediately because there was a speed trap about half a mile down the road...

3.4L, 175hp 195 ft/lbs ... I think that's right this time.

so i might as well not disapoint everyone  thats cool ,what year of grand am was it?
3400 V6 GAGTs have 175HP 205lb-ft. 3100s have 155HP 185lb-ft. BTW 99+ Grand am weigh the same if not a little less than an Auto V6 cougar.
how's everybody been doing?

92-95 had quad tip exhaust. 96-98 had dual tip. 99+ has quad tip again.

I want to say it was either a '98 or a '99 but I am not positive.

i wish i could find some good pics for you. what kinda of rims did it have? 96-98s have rectangel shaped dual exhaust tips. 99+ have quad4 tips. 99+s are big cars with ribbing down on the sides.

Seems I was mistaken, it's the Grand Prixs and Firebirds that are heavier. Grand Prix being about 3,400lbs. Firebird is about 3,350lbs. The Grand AM is rated just below 3,100lbs, while the Cougar ATX is rated just above 3,100lbs.
So, the Grand AM is lighter. Just makes victory all the sweeter.

I asked my friend today. I was wrong, it's not a GT, it was just a '00 SE. All well, I'm still happy with the kill!
