View Full Version : What are my odds??
Alright...well, a new car just came to town! This dudes got a '98 Eclipse GSX. <-- is that AWD and Turbo right?
My question is....how fast is that car? I know there is no exact answer, but a ballpark would be nice.
These are the mods that the guy has:
Mods> Greddy Intercooler/Piping, Greddy Blowoff Valve, Accel Wires, AEM Intake, Greddy Exhaust, Greddy Turbo Timer, HKS Electronic Valve Controller EVC VI,
Performance wise, I have the SVT UIM & TB and the Venom VCN-2000 Nitrous is on the way. Ummm.. dual exhaust. Thats about it I think.
thanks everybody!!!

He'll toast you. With the Venom kit It might be close but you'll definately need it.

First off what transmissions do you 2 have??
Cause that'll make a difference if one has a Manual and the other is an auto.
Basically depending on the driver, if he is an above average driver he can be in the low 14's. Do you know how much boost he is running? A friend of mine had a mostly stock Eclipse GST (basically a boost controller, intake and exhaust) and was running like 16psi iirc, and his car rocked. He later upgraded everything, and went up to a 20G, huge intercooler, huge piping, engine internals and 20psi...And he runs consistent 11's...
Stock a GSX I have seen run from a 14.2-15.0...As some people don't know how to launch an AWD can or shift. If you are a good drive, I'd recommend you get a full full bottle of nitrous, get some high octane gas, or run the highest you can find and add 2 bottles of Octane boster, gap your plugs (go for the NGK TR6) to a .035, and run a 100 shot. You'll probably fry your clutch nicely, but if you launch well and hit the nitrous at around 4K in 1st, you'll probably win. Remove some dead weight from the car and you'llhave a 13sec car. The only problem is you will lose once the bottle is empty. I recommend a bottle heater if you are in a colder climate to get full bottle pressure.
Basically...after my whole long post here...he'll bet you twice before you pass the finish line once, unless you run a high shot of N2O. I recommend you get some headers on there and squeeze out as much NA power out of the 2.5L as possible, with bolt ons, then have your crank hp up to or over 200hp, and then a 100 shot will be over 300 crank hp.
WARNING: The tranny will not like this. The clutch will slip on every shift, and if you launch too hard say bye bye to the differential. I do recommend you add as LSD, Clutch, Flywheel combo. And then all will be better.
Good luck either way...

you are going to get owned. any DSM with those mods= high 13s with a decent driver. might be closer with the N20..but i still think you wont win.

GSX are fast yes. If they art modded the drivetrain loss of the awd combined with their heavy weight is not good.
His car seems to have the basics. But w/o an aftermarket turbo his car will be pushing around 300 crank HP.
You will a 100shot of n20 and intake/headers/exhaust should be able to give him a good run if not beat him.
He WILL get you off the line. But you will have Alot less drivetrain loss and weigh less. Good Luck to you.
BTW eclipe GSTs are faster due to lighter weight and less drivetrain loss. (not awd)
thanks everybody for your responses!...appreciate it
isnt 100HP shot too much for stock engine??

You can run a 100shot...but as I said before. You need to retard ignition timing. If you don't have the ability to, then run race gas, and if you can't get that run the highest octane gas you can get and like 2 bottles of octane booster.
You also want to make sure your plugs are gapped at about a .035"
The NGK TR6 plugs will do, and their stock gap is a .035" And you'll want to run 91+ octane gas on a regular basis anyway now. The highest I can get here is 93 or Ultra 94 from Sunoco. Or go to the track and get 105 or 110 octane gas.

The guy has a T25 turbo....not sure if thats good or bad for me??

A T25 is stock IIRC...how much boost is he running??
Either way he will win...it will take great driving by you with the nitrous to win...Ask if you can drive his car.

he won't have as much drivetrain loss as you think, with the upgrades that he has. since he still has a stock turbo it's hard to say. if you hit the shot the story could change......depending on your launch. it should be an excellent race.....would you mind taping it for us?!? i would love to see this one:biggrin:
