well I got the new clarion 835 and that gives out 53x4 and the factory speakers arent taking it really good, plus i got a couple of 12s in the trunk so the bass is overlaping the whole mids and highs... so does anybody know what size speakers they are??? front and rear

Remember there is a search feature so that way you dont have to wait for responses.....but the factory size is 6x8........

Remeber to EQ your Subs to the low frequency's and the regular speakers to the mid to high end. then there's no overlapping. I have stock speakers, and they sound good for now. I'm armed with a Pioneer 8400, and its got a ton of EQ stuff on it. Yours should have a decent amount of adjustments for your outputs too.

Ditto. I have the DEH-P740MP Pioneer headunit and JL 12" subs with an amp, but my inside speakers are still stock and it sounds VERY NICE. Just make adjustments.

The settings are good, but the thing is, I had a pioneer 7400 before and I had no problem, but the output on this new radio is 53x4.... so it gives out more power, the way you set it up is basically like the pioneers, but this one's got a little more power, plus my stock speakers have been used and abused already.... I'm just gonna go ahead and buy some aftermarket one, it aint like 50 bucks a pair will kill me....

Are the back and front 6x8"??
Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about audio...

I was told 5X7's from Circuit City and Best buy.

I just read in Cruchfield that the cougar has 6x8 in the front, with 3 1/2" depth, and 6x8 in the back, with a 5" depth. But they also said that you can use 5x7... Thanks though Magoo...

The front depth can be changed with a little bit of engineering and imagination, as well as the size, the rear can only be changed if you cut into the outer covering......for those who get deeper magnets.
I threw in some MB's in the front and my rear is faded out quite because they are stock. Also added 2 pairs of 1" tweeters to add some surround..... Sounds ok to me, but to some they have bleeding ears.
Im planning to simply put 2 8" JL sub's where the rear 5x7"s are. Ive heard this setup in other hatch backs, and after some fine tuning, it gives the presence of bass from the front, which is the correct imaging, since the subs are closer to your head...like giant headphones.
BUT its nothing like 2 12''s in a 3cu.ft box...So im still debating to make the change.

When a speaker depth is specified, where is the dimension point from? The back face of the speaker front to the end of the magnet, or what? Basically, I want to know where the 3 1/2" is specified from.

I think Crutchfield was saying the deepest speaker that could fit in that hole without modification is 3.5"
In the cruchfield magazine, they specify speaker depths, as well as other technical information for each speaker...

If im not mistaken ..... its total depth from top most point to bottom of magnet. Say you had a flush mounted speaker and needed to know how much the surround rim sticks up against a factory grill. Total measurement would let you know if it would fit flush with outer edge of mounting location. And the measurement from the door to glass is about 3 1/2" or if not exactly.
