It was my job. :( Thought I'd share the news w/ my peeps in NECO, heh.

WorldCom RIF'd another 5000 people, and fourth time is the charm I guess, as I was "impacted by this action." My group had not lost anyone during the previous downsizings, even though our department was hit pretty hard the last two times. Only one person left our group, a year ago, for a job more up his alley (he's a game programmer in Wisconsin now). That made me the newest guy on the totem pole, and so I'm out.

Hoist one for me tonight guys and gals :)

And if you know anybody looking for a C/Java telecomm/embedded software engineer, let me know!

Well 2 people got canned at UPS this week too so there are some openings...but um, I highly doubt you'd work for what they start at...heck, I doubt you'd work for what I make:banghead: Sorry to hear about that. Good luck in your job hunting. Maybe you'll relocate to Cleveland:) Either way I'm sure the next job will come soon and be even better than the last.

Sorry to hear that. I will contact some of my old co-workers (technical recruiters) and see if they know of anyone who is looking.

I have a new um...ahem, "contact" in the computer programing world. Well, not so much a NEW contact as... well... nevermind. Anyway, PM me with the techno-babble explaining what you do and I'll run it by her.

Sorry to hear about the job Mark!
At least your in columbus - from what i hear it is a better area to be in right now than cleveland when it comes to technology and jobs.

Maybe now is the time you should convert over to the dark side and join .NET? ;) it's sooo much fun!

Becky

Hopefully programming is more needed in Columbus than mainframe operators, helpdesk people, network engineers. I haven't been able to get one since I left IBM (Hilliard) in Dec. 2000. Waited till May 2001 to start delivering pizzas and still haven't been able to even get a call center type of position. I have tried dumbing down my resume to boasting and nothing has worked yet.

Good luck to ya man.

Dude, Sorry to hear that :(

When I went to the Ohio Job & Family Services rapid response meeting last week, there were several network engineers in the room from WCOM who'd been laid off in the same class as me. Some had 10, 12, 16 years working at WorldCom, since it'd been CompuServe.

It's tough out there for everybody right now, but it's actually starting to get better :-/ . The people laid off last April, and last June, they were hurting worse than us in this last bunch.

Good luck to you!
