I may be in the market to replace my battery soon, and trying to figure out which optima battery is best for me. Basically from searches and a little reading, I've come to the conclusion that the red tops are a better "stock" like battery that is good for starting your car and powering some aftermarket stereo stuff. Whereas the yellow is a deep cycle battery which is better for aftermarket stuff. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically right now I have 2 amps - a 5 channel, basically 40w x 4 for the channels I use, and a mono 250w amp (sub). Runs fine on stock battery/alternator. So i'm thinking the redtop should be fine for me. Eventually I may - and stress may upgrade to 60 or 75w x4 amp. I don't think it will be within a year at least. However I am planning on installing another device in the back that probably has the same power requirements as my 5 channel amp.

Here's the question, what should I get, sounds like I should get yellow top, but if possible I'd like to get the red top. matches my engine color theme perfectly :) Any chance I can paint the yellow top to red/black, heheh.

One last thing, what model red top or yellow top is everyone getting?

your not pulling that much power so you should be fine with a red top.

Ok, I won't be doing any competition level audio setups at all, and if I do I guess I could always add a yellow top in the back, right?

I believe there is only one model of the yellow top that is even designed for passenger cars... mine cost 180 bucks, and stopped a bit of the dimming....

Go with the Yellow Top... don't consider the red top unless you are without a stereo system.... read this information on which is best for you... ALL signs point to a Yellow Top.. I bought mine for $135.00

Like I said I won't be doing competition level stereo in my car, nor will I be playing my stereo when the car is not running. My stock battery does a fine job for the last 2.5 years of handling my battery.

I got the yellow top and noticed only a slight difference in dimming. My lights still dim which is weird cuz I only have one sub with a 500W amp (and I'm on my third alternator!), but cannot put it up more than halfway cuz I'll probably blow the sub. But Crispy's right if you're gonna spend that much money on a battery, just spend a little more and get the yellow top, for future aftermarket additions. You could paint it no problem.

Yeah the money part is the thing. Beachcougar has a deal for redtops, really cheap. So I'm leaning towards a red top for that reason. I don't think I could spend $150-180 on a battery and unless I had some serious equipment and doing competitions.

I got my yellow top for $140 at batterymart.com, $35 more than the red top.
