well it was replaced on sunday and yesterday I noticed when I reach 5-6000 rpm in first gear the battery light is coming on then turns off when I switch gears...........I fear its struggling to produce enough current at high rpms.

Did you get a new battery when you got the new alternator? Sometimes if the battery is old it won't charge correctly, even if the alternator is new. But if it is the alternator and you just had it installed, there should be a 1 year warranty on the part, that is, if you want to install a 3rd ****ty Ford part. Go racer alternator instead, if you have the money. Won't ever happen again.

It doesnt really matter if the battery is old or not...if your alternator went out , then the car could have been sucking all the life from the battery to the pont of the battery not being able to recharge itself anymore.......your alt could have went out days before you knew it because the car would run off the battery alone.....

Good luck,
Sunni :)

why would the battery light come on at high rpm?...........the car is running off the alternator...........also at night with lights, radio and heater wouldnt the battery light come on? but it doesnt.......I think the engine is pulling so much current that the battery looses its share and then the light comes on then goes out when engine rpm drops I would believe a weak alternator would cause this. Anyway they replaced it :)

Good thought, but....

The reason your battery light comes on at HIGH RPMs is because the brushes are expanding out and touching the coils. Our alts are VERY small and put out a TON of power...especially for it's size. You figure your engine is reving at say 6k RPMs..imagine hos fast your little alt rotor is spinning at that point. In your case, as well as a lot of Ford alt cases, having the rotor spin so fast, it expands out and stretches..causing the end of the fields to touch the coils, thus slowing down the rotor, spinning the bearing, and causing the voltage to overload your regulator.

Take it back to the dealer and have it service installed, you have a one year warranty on ANY Ford/Motorcraft part installed.
