I've been going through hell trying to get my sunroof replaced and the Ford dealership is screwing everything up. First of all, the parts were supposed to be in on Wednesday and the car was supposed to be done on Thursday or Friday, but they haven't even called me to let me know if the parts are in yet and won't return my calls. Then I told them I wanted the metal rails from the 2001 put in so the cheap ass plastic ones didn't break again, and they won't put them in because they say they won't fit, even though I told them that lots of people have put them in. Then this is the kicker...I've been driving the car with the interior piece of the roof with the headliner fibric on it missing since they diagnosed the problem, I figured they just kept it out because it was easier because they were just going to fix it the same week, and they didn't say anything to me about it (I was worried they lost it, it's a $300 + part). I open my hatch yesterday to find it laying in there, and now it's not only bent a little, which isn't a big deal because I think it will just form to fit the roof, but there is a big ass greasy black handprint on the fabric that goes on the roof when the it's closed. Like they're going to replace that. The mechanic must have either gotten it dirty when he was taking it out, or put his hand up there to lower himself into the car...either way, engine grease or oil or whatever it is probably isn't going to come out...What the hell do I do, I'm already paying over $1000 to fix the roof, not even the way I want to, but now I have to spend more to replace that part? I'm going to call them today and *****, I'll update after I talk to them.

Never take your car to the dealership before you read the stickies in general

Go in and talk to your service writer, explain your problems. If you are not satisfied, ask where the Service Managers office is and go talk to him/her. If still not satisfied, ask the service manager where the general managers office is. Trust me, you will see results.

If you are paying cash, then you should get the parts you requested, tell them that someone from Ford Parts told you that they will fit. As far as the dirty headliner, scream to them about it and demand that it either be cleaned or replaced.

hell I got aluminum rails. I can take a picture of it for you if you want and you can show it to them. I had mine replaced under warranty and I mentioned the aluminum rails and they put them in no problem. Either that or find another dealership to do the work, but first try what Fett said

Yea, if you don't get satisfaction from the GM, then tell him you are going to take your car to another dealer.

You know....the more I think about it, the plastic ones were replaced by the metal ones. I think that is all you can get. I will look them up tomorrow.

Ok, my sunroof is being repaired tomorrow. I called the dealership yesterday, and the part came in on Friday, they just neglected to call me and tell me about it. Guess what? Turns out the gear assay that you order for the 1999 is metal!!! I think I told him that. It's an updated part, Ford decided plastic sucks I guess. The guy really didn't want to acknowledge the fact that I told him it was an updated part, but oh well. As far as the grease on my fabric roof cover, he said he would try to get it out and that he thought he could, so we'll see. If it doesn't come out or if what he uses leaves a stain itself or makes it worse, then I'm heading to the big wigs upstairs. I'll keep you all posted...this really pisses me off, but at least I'll be able to open my roof (probably won't until July due to fear!).

Yea, the gear and track assy is replaced. There is only one option available, the metal one.

Ok, I'm glad to hear the part has to be metal, that rocks. I just dropped Lola off at the garage, she should be better by this afternoon. As far as the grease on the fabric roof cover, we'll see what it looks like when I get there. If it's not perfect I'm going postal.

If you have anymore problems with them...call Mercury at 1-800-521-4140. I did this on a Ford Probe GT to replace chrome wheels and all the sudden they decided to replace them.
