View Full Version : Squealing from front wheels in reverse?

Within the last couple of weeks, my car has begun making a loud squealing noise coming from the front wheels when backing up (usually out of a parking spot). It's similar to a squeaky brake sound, but my foot is nowhere near the brake, and it happens just about every time when in reverse (even if I haven't touched the brakes in awhile). At first I suspected the brakes might be sticking, but it doesn't seem to make the noise when moving forward. Help?
(I fear there will be many more posts from me here as well. :()

That's weird. My rear brakes do that (there's a TSB about it), but you have the aftermarket rotors and pads, so that's obviously not it. Unless its something in the calipers...

Check to make sure your calipers are on straight... sounds like they might have been bent or moved, and when in reverse, it pulls against the edge that is up....

Hmm, interesting point. I'll have to check that out. It wouldn't be anything to do with wheel bearings or something related to getting the power to the wheels, right?
Hmm... Bennett, which rear brakes do you have? My front brakes are the OMP/Mintex combo, but the rears are stockers. The only thing that makes me wonder about it being the TSB is that it only seemed to surface in the last month or so, and my car is pushing 4 years old now.

Stock discs all around for me.

Discs all around here, too. Do you remember what the brake TSB was about? Since I'm out of warranty, I'd rather not have to take it to the dealer to find out.

I get a noise when backing up too, but it's more of a high pitched grinding noise that lasts about a second. I'm also getting more grooves on my rotors. They've already been machined twice..time for some cross-drilled.
