who do u think will win a cougar v6 mtx or a 01 tiburon mtx? my girlfriend has the tiburon and it seems really quick i just dont know how quick it is, if feels alot like how my cougar felt when it was stock right before i traded it in. i looked into it the tibs dyno at 110 hp and 110tq, now i know thats not much but her car only weighs 2500 lbs so that 500 lbs lighter than a fully loaded cougar and the tibs are geared alot better than the cougars, they top out at 125 mph red line limited, not the other question anyone wanna race? lol it would have to be someone in empire neco b.c i live in ny

so 20-30 less hp to the ground and about 500 pounds less...i think that it would still be the cougar..or at least close in the couga's fava....

I raced an 01 Tiburon on the highway before and beat it easily it just couldn't keep up so u should have no problem with it. My friend gots an 03 Tiburon Atx though and we took off from a redlight and we stayed neck and neck pretty much the whole time.

never raced a new tiburon... but the other day i went at it with a 95'ish mustang - probably the base model...
we started from a 30mph roll or so... and by 3rd gear i was able to pass him safely...
the point is... if I'm able to take out a RWD mustang in a mtx cougar *with NO mods, just audio equipment* ... you should DEFFINATLY be able to beat a tiburon.

01' tib will prolly run a 16.4 in the quarter mile and the mtx cougar runs a 16 flat so the cougar shouldn't have any problems winning the race

Hey if she doesnt want to race i will bring my other love of my life which is another mercury and i gurantee i will smoke her for you.. its a 63 mercury comet coupe and last year it was dynoed at 380 to the wheels..:)... just a thought
2003 tiburon is faster than cougar?

i cant race her i traded my cougar in for an rsx. i am still a lover of the cougar though i just had too many problems with mine, if it wasnt for the problems i still would have had my cat, i would only have had 13 months of car payments left to. hehe as far as the tib goes it feels alot like triving the cougar, and acording to mag times they run a 16.1, i couldnt believe that when i saw it b.c when i had my coug i would be pissed if i lost to a tib, so i think it would be a drivers race just need someone with a coug to race

What's the matter, you cant get Clive (qstorm) to race her?
Better yet...howabout you race your RSX against my stang? Offer still stands, I'll start off in 2nd and take the air out of one of my tires! :rofl:
The new Tib has 170 HP. The gearing is horrible on that car though...so all things being equal (both cars driven to their best possible times) a Cougar will win...but not by much. In all actuality, it is a drivers race. A Tib very will could beat a Cougar.

hey i am not talking about the new v6 tibbs, those will beat the cougar with even drivers, not by much though i am talking about the 2001 i4 tibb,

yea i think u would lose stock vs stock to the 03 v6, they have the same hp as the cougar they weigh a little less and they have more tq, and better gearing with the 6spd so they do have the advantage but it wont be a big lose only by a car length or so

I was looking into a Tib awhile back, cause I thought they looke pretty cool. For one that actually has some balls, you're gonna pay! IIRC, they are over $20,000 with the V6 and some options.... :cough Cough: for a damn Hundai. No thanks!

Actually, they have HORRIBLE gearing...which makes them much slower than they should be. Unfortunatly, so does the Cougar.

Im not a troll or anything, so dont flame me right off. Im just trying to get an idea of where you get off saying they have horrible gearing? wheres your source for this information? Do you know the actual ratios? do you know where the power band is? Have you driven a tiburon? I have one and to be honest the gearing is perfect when you shift just before redline it lands in a fantastic powerband every single gear. just curious where do you get your info?
