I just got a 2000 4 cylinder cougar MTX, i had a 99 V6 ATX, im new to tha 4 cylinder so im wondering what i need to do to make tha car fast....i was thinking turbo, but is there anyway tha car can be fast without a turbo or no? and im not talking "fast" as in low 15s, im talkin fast as in atleast high 13s/low 14s. Any input would be much appreciated, thanks.

Getting a turbo would be a good idea:hitit:, but There are several head packages out there too. Gude performance offers a head package that they say is good for 58 hp to the wheels, for $1600. Performance fords is currently in the prototyping stage for a bolt on turbo package for cougars, contours, and other cars too. If you go naturally aspirated, then ZXTuner is going to be modifying their headers some time in March to fit the cougars as well (one of our own, whitezetec, will be going in to get his car spec'd). They are 4-2-1 ceramic coated headers, and are good for 10 hp to the wheels for $310. Yodude, the same company that makes exhausts for v6's, also offers exhausts that fit the 2.0l zetec, and you can even get the piping in 2.25"(2.5 is too big, and hp will be lost rather than gained), just have to ask them when you're ordering. There are several intake kits around, i have the weapon R with a cold air box...(btw, our cars sound nothing like rice with an intake and good choice with exhaust. They actually sound pretty mean on the intake side. I want to get a sound clip of my intake, it roars...)
Anyways, welcome to the Zetec boards...

no...i have 2.5 and i definitely wouldn't say i lost a bit of power...it ran faster and smoother immediately after gettin it done.....then again i also took out my resonator and cat.....it's striaght 2.5" into the muffler....just wonderin.....why would you lose power if you went from the stock 1 3/4" (or whatever it is) to 2.5"?.....i've heard this before.....i just can't see you losing power unless you have like the resonator, cat, and muffler(s) on top of that....

From what I know, if your exhaust is too big, there will be a loss of back pressure, which somehow results in a loss of power rather than a gain. Unless you have a turbo, in which case, the less exhaust resistance, the faster you go. Thats all I know on the subject, anyone else know why??
