i read in some post about someone being at street flight and them saying their turbo kit will not work with the atx due to clearance issues like with the vortech. this was a mod i was planning on, so id like to know what the deal is. and if that's the case i think it would be pretty damn lame to market a kit saying it will do something, when it wont. (if that is the case, i dont want to sound offensive until it's totally necessary :biggrin: ) since hightower's tour is an atx this all seems quite strange. i just wanna know

Yeah...that was me. I was down there getting some other work done and ended up talking to them abou the turbo. They told me that it (as of now) won't work with an ATX tranny for whatever reasons. That's why the other cougar in the shop while I was there had just had the MTX (plus an SVT complete engine swap) done. I don't think that it was mismarketed by them at all - I *think* what happened was that as word spread about the turbo kit little things here or there got tweaked, changed, altered, misquoted, whatever... Those guys definitely would not risk their own reputation (and all that business, for that matter) on an intentional lie. Now, what is planned for the future of the SF turbo and its compatibility I obviously cannot say. If you seriously are considering purchasing the kit, though, you should maybe call them directly and get all the answers you need "straight from the horse's mouth," rather than solely basing a $5,000+ decision on the ever-changing opinions of us! If you need the number, let me know and I'll look it up in the phone book for you.

well i didnt mean to sound so pissy about it, and the reason i posted here instead of calling was i know hightower frequents these boards so i was hoping to get an answer from him due to him being involved in the production, and his being atx as well. but considering after my engine swap, my engine will be on the opposite side as the regular duratec...fitment might be a whole new ball game. once again i did not mean to sound pissy :D

Hey no problem...I hope (for my own sake!) that you get some solid info on the ATX fitment. I's just tryin' to help!!!

There is room, but the Y-pipe and probably downpipe will need to be different than the MTX. Some of the A/C stuff might need to be moved around, but you gotta make sacrifices :)

It's going to be a while for me to get my Contour out there to them. However, if anyone wants to let them have a car for a day or two just to see, I say go for it.

whew...thats good to know, my engine is gonna need different piping in some places too due it being mounted differently.

Only problem with this is after the 7 grand ur gonna spend in total on the turbo your gonna need at least another $1500 to do some tranny mods to keep the thing cool and running correctly.

AFter realistically thinking about it, i could sell my cougar, buy a GSX eclipse, plow almost 9 grand into it and have a 10 second car w/ AWD and looks comparable to the cougar, rather than a 260fwd cougar that runs low 14s...

Believe me I have thought about that so much after I keeping seeing the hole in my checkbook the SC 3L/trans, etc etc left but I guess it all comes down to personal prefrence and being unique. A highway race with a 11 sec eclipse and my car would be a fun time :) The poor qt miles times these cars put up don't do them justice when you see how much damn fun they are to drive with 350-400hp under the hood. My car is a damn blast and I don't even have it running correctly right now! When she gets tuned I know I won't regret one penny.

I don't doubt it one bit, i would take your car in a heartbeat, but I think you know where i'm getting at... just the cougs were not really thought about when making a really quick car, but with enough money you can overcome that flaw... :)

Tranny cooler != $1500 :tongue:

I believe the new SC kit for the Escape is supposed to be pushing it to near 300hp.. the Escape has the same tranny as the Cougar. I would assume the Cougar's ATX tranny could handle up to 300hp as well, moreso if you put a tranny cooler in..
