Been a long time since I've been here.. 90K+ and still got the Cat. I was looking under the hood and I noticed that I am in serious need of a new battery, bracket, and maybe cables. I've been looking at Optimas, and of course the auto parts stores are no help ("it won't fit"). What I want to know is which battery I should get, a how to.., and suggestions on parts to install with it (ie bracket and cables).
Here is just some of what I've heard so far for the battery:
-optima blue top, d31m (does it fit normally? do I need to turn it sideways?)
-optima red top, d34/78 (same questions)
Any other suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Heck maybe we can get this thread added to the master How to's archive if it's informative enough.

I thought Blue top was for marine use??? "The OPTIMAŽ BlueTop battery will keep you on the water longer" Unless your Cougar is a boat I think you got the wrong Battery!
Why don't you just measure your battery and measure the new one to see if it will fit. I have a red Top that fits just fine upright. The yellow top is good but not worth the money unless you are running lots of electrical components like amps, video screens, neons, Ect. Plus the yellow top only has 1 year warranty, the red top has I think 3 year! Check out there Website! (http://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/product_info/automotive.html)

The blue top is for marine use but it is the same battery as the yellow top, but it has a blue top and two extra wing nut terminals on top which are great for hooking up extra stereo equipment. If you look on their web sites at both the blue top and yellow their specs performance wise are exactly the same.

Does the Blue top fit any better in the car than a red or yellow?
Also, still wondering about the "how to", including suggestions for Battery tray and cables.

the blue top is bigger by almost 2 inches long and 2 inches taller, weights like 15 lbs more but the largest of the blue tops has something like 1100 CCA... thats huge... and has all the same specs otherwise...

the d34m blue top fit perfectly and the factory battery brace holds it down just like stock.

Lazy,Lazy,Lazy! Don't hold me to it but I think my redtop is 7 1/2"Wx11"Lx7 1/2"H! I'll post a pick if I can find one!
