Ok, I've talked to Rob Green of ZXTuner, and what I believe I have just done is make an oppertunity for our cars to have a completely bolt on set of headers...
2.0 headers for zx2 (http://www.zx2racing.com/store/exhaust.htm)
I wrote him asking if he would like to provide the headers for contours and cougars, and offered to loan my cougar so they could spec it out (as long as they weren't too far away), and get the information neseccary to produce the headers for our cars...
He sent me this:
hi nate,
the shop is in irwindale, ca... if you can lend your car, we can spec out
the cougar for you. Call me at 909-784-9603 and we can set this up.
the only thing that needs modification is the connector to your exhaust
system. any muffler shop can handle that.
regards,
rob green
I know that modifying the headers would not be too hard, but it would make things alot easier if they sent us the extra part with the kit, for easy bolt on installation...
If there is any zetec cougar/contour owner around the Irwindale, Cali. area, who would like to have these headers, and also make them available to other cougar/contour owners, tell me and i'll call him and hopefully set up an appointment. Thanks, -Nate

so at the moment, what he is saying is that those headers will fit our cougars with just some modifications to where the exhaust bolts on at the end? i think i might just buy them to just have headers until someone gets them spec'd to our cars

yes......the zx2 is closer to our car then the focus etc...is.....and yup, all ya gotta do is work the connector, it would be nice though to have 1 solid unit however...

I told Rob Green that Whitezetec is near the area, and would be willing to provide his cougar for the spec work. Rob is talking with Hotshot performance, (I guess they are the company that makes the headers).
Whitezetec: He also wants to know when in February you could take your car in.
Can't wait till we get this work finished! I'll probably be ordering a set of headers as soon as they become available...

By the way, the headers should be offered for only $315 (They were $350 only a few months ago)

4-2-1 Ceramic coated headers. Good for 10+ hp to the wheels. Here is a picture:

It should make the car have a little deeper sound to it, not exactly louder per say...but it will give you more noise. If you have a quiet(er) muffler even better for you......flowmasters...probably gonna make ya deaf in the cabin :)

For the loudness question. Anytime you go from a stock Manifold w/ Cat to a Full Length 4-2-1 Setup, which removes the Cat your going to have a Noise increase.
You could get an aftermarket Cat and Resonator installed, but you'll still have some increased noise over the stock setup.

Ive been talking to the CEG croud, they LIKE em as much as we do... Talked to Rob Green on the phone today, I ordered some spark plug wires and an accel thundercoil, and then we discussed the headers. He says that his company just got a large shipment of the headers, and that should give them something to work with as far as we go... Sounds good.

Emissions wise, if you just install this header w/ your custom exhaust work, NOPE don't think so.
Talk to Rob, he has this header installed on his car and lives in Cali so more than likely he has an aftermarket cat and what not.

I have a question about the adding of an aftermarket cat?? Since this is a long header and it eliminates the cat, would you just put the cat after the headers, then attatch the rest of the exhaust to it?? I am thinking that this could be done by any shop at a fairly low price...anybody got any different ideas???

depending on your area (most areas) you only need one cat......that is to pass emissions.....i'm thinkin that puttin the cat right after the headers woudl likely cause you to lose power....a lotta power....put it towards the last half of the exhaust......that's my thinking anyway....
