what is a fair price to have the whole exterior painted WELL. I like to have things done right if I do them, no maaco bull****. Anyone know where i can get a descent price or a deal in the NY, PA, DC, VA area?

Do you want the same/oringinal color? That will save you a ton of money because then you don't have to worry about painting the door jams, hatch back water channels, etc.

I was thinking about getting mine repainted onix black at macco, why not its only like $299. Do they really do a bad job? I dont think it matters for flat/non-metalic colours. Does it?

Someone mentioned the 'm' word (maaco) - you get what you pay for. When I looked into doing it the same color in Western New York, I was quoted 750, including double clear coat.

keep in mind maaco is a chain...yet indepently owned and operated. meaning they get their supplies at a much cheaper rate due to bulk. so each maaco is only as good as the people who run it. with maaco, if you know what you want, you can specify. the parts guy at the for dealership had a 3 tone paint job (green, a curved seperating line in silver, then purple) and is a multi truck show winner. and it only cost him 850. theres a warranty too...so if its screwed...its a***** but they gotta fix it.

don't entire quality paint jobs for our cars cost around $2000? I'd go to a bodyshop if anything if I ever had to get my car painted. Don't forget the color will also raise or lower the price.

From past experience, a complete color change will run you in the neighborhood of about $4000. As for a repaint, figure on anywhere from 1200 to 1800 for a better than factory finish. These prices are for TOP NOTCH QUALITY work. Not some hack shop.

You could probably ask to see a car that was just painted and is drying, right? then you could check how well they taped up the trim/windows/etc.. Could you check if there is orange peel at this point? or does that come out while it's curing? You should also check if it's drying while it's still taped. Not good. I wanna check out a maaco $299 paint job sometime.

my dad owns a body shop and he charges around 2500-3000 for a whole new paint job but its a small shop so he rarely takes those jobs.....besides the reason i hear maaco is so cheap is because of crap material, crap work, and they just paint over existing paint not sand it all off

if you go to maaco it's a MUST that you prep your car yourself. they only do light prepping... i know a few ppl that have gone to maaco and they said the paint job was actually decent, but they of course took the time and prepped the car themselves and did it well.

Thats a great Idea! It probably would make it a better paint job, but I don't think I'd have the heart to sand down the paint on my car... I get pissed as it is to find a little scratch... nevermind taking sandpaper to it... You could probably tape off parts off your car too, couldn't you? I'd be scared of doing a **** job though..
