I saw him floor it turning onto the road I was on so I pulled up to the next light and was ready to race. I saw him staring at my pillar pod and when the light turned green he just inched away. :) I think I scared him....

I know I could have taken him I wish he would have raced.

my mom has the GTP (ATX) and my bro was driving it around one day when I caught up with him...I had always wanted to race one of those bad boys so I flashed my lights and pulled him over...so we go up to a stoplight together and we were neck and neck until I was shifting into third and we were going about 60 or so then he pulled away from me and that was that...pretty good race though...i think it being auto hurt it a lot.

They don't make those things with a manual, do they?

I have NO idea what's up with Pontiac hobbling alltheir sweet cars with automatics. No choice.

Yeah I've always wanted to race one of those. They are not dogs like Fastam said but I think all are autos (Pontiac  ) and they're also on the heavy side but once they get going, they get going. Should be a good race stock GTP vs. mooded Cougar V6 MTX.

actualy off the line is where they shine. its ture they do weigh over 3600lbs, but they have 240HP and 280lb-ft . thats a lot of torque ,and its down low . stock the can pull high 14s ,most people can do a 14.8-15.0 stock, some people have been knowen to hit as low as 14.6. they have a huge aftermarket for them . different Supercharger pullies for more boost, exhaust, intake ,intercoolers, cams,ECMs,headers.

a GTP with a 3.25" pully intake and exhuast have been known to hit high 13s.

EDIT: the reason why they are autos, is up until recently GM has not been able to make a FWD manual transmisson that can hanndle more than 250lb-ft . the last one they tried was with the 3.4L DOHC it made 215HP and 200lb-ft (from 1990-1996)even then the tranies would give out.

blackcoog you would've smoked that guy. Especially since it sounds
like he was stock. Cause if he wasn't stock and had put some work into
his car he would've raced ya.

Just fixed my CEL last night (EGR burnt through a heater hose) so I'll have to go out looking again. I barely drive the car (once every few weeks) since it is winter and I have summer tires on it :). I'll get some good races this summer I can post about.

I find it odd that a V6 Cougar can take on a stock Grand Prix GTP. My dad owns one, and it packs alot of punch for an auto. I doubt a modded cougar unless it has turbo can take one out.

no stock to stock the GTP will own a Cougar. but Blackcoog is running some decent mods, i'd say he should be in the mid 14s with his mods. thats a bit faster than a stock GTP.

a grand prix (didn't see GTP on it) and a new ford explorer were racing each other this morning...i witnessed the whole race (i was next to both of them on fish hatchery until we turned onto a side street)... this was in a 35mph zone in town...the explorer went into the oncoming lane (only 2 lane road) so they could drag. it was like watching 2 turtles have sex. haha

if you didnt see GTP on it...then why did you mention it? a regular GP can have a 170HP 3.4L V6 or a 200HP 3.8L V6 and they are heavy, the are so differet from GTPs its not funny.

i could make comments that have nothig to do with the topic too.

i was in my buddies Zetec Cougar when it got walked down by an Explorer. see makes no sense, as its not the same CAR!.

i mentioned it because i can.

i should have been more verbose for the thread police and said "i didn't notice a GTP on it, but i wasn't trying to keep up since there was snow on the roads, plus traffic as the grand prix and explorer decided to race"

is that better? chill out, man.

if Blackcoog raced a stock GTP he would end that thing.
As long as he is driving to his ability. Look at his mods for GODS sake!!!!!

Thats no problem, I'm just saying that just because you throw a 3.0 into a Coug, along with other aftermarket parts doesn't mean it can take on the world. We gotta be realistic here, a GTP has balls unfortunately our cougars won't unless we investa fortune into it. I'm not trying to start a flame or argument, just being realistic.

I have raced a GTP with my somewhat modded 2.5 and it was very close so I know Blackcoogs would eat a GTP. A 3.0L might not be able to take on the world but it will smoke a stock GTP. A GTP might have balls but it needs to go on a diet. And a 3L coug has balls too!!!
