View Full Version : Luck o' the Irish *** UPDATED WITH TODAYS RESULTS ***
Well, I'm obviously NOT Irish. To prove this let me recap a bit. I lost my license unknowingly back in October for 12 points. I wasnt aware of this for a while due to my addy being wrong on my license. I tried to catch up and file all the necessary paperwork and all- mostly just got jerked around by the Parma court and the BMV. Still to this day Ive not had my court hearing so I can get occupational driving. Fast forward to today. Driving from a job to my Dad's to drop off paint materials after work. Driving normally in rush our traffic, not doing anything remotely wrong. I get stopped by the North Olmstead police...Uh-Oh! Not good, game over, I'm toast. So luckily this female officer (who is either really really nice or wanted to strip search and handcuff me) doesnt give me a hard time- I explain the situation and she calls in for more info as I take a seat in the back of the car...heh- never been in the back seat of a cop car..its a tight fit. Anyways, there is much confusion at the moment about where I stand, what I need to do, etc. All I know is I'm not in jail...surprisingly, and my car is currently impounded. Let me tell you, that is a heart wrenching feeling to see a young guy pulling a lowered cougar up onto a flatbed. I nearly cried about that one. Other than that the woman was really nice- gave me a ride back to my Dad's place (no, I didnt aske her to come inside). Now I left out a great hour-long conversation with this cop- but I'll leave that for now. She was funny...unlike the A-hole who pulled in behind her to back her up. Anyway, she pulled some strings and got my court date moved up to tomorrow instead of 2 weeks from now to save me some $$$$. I'll let you all know the direction this is going tomorrow evening.
If any of you have had suspended licenses please gimme some info on how to get back in the State's good graces please. This crap is mind boggling.:banghead:
Oh yeah- um, Sare, you get the award for calling someone while they are sitting in the back of a police car. Sorry if I seemed a lil short. Now you know why;) I'll try to get those lights for ya but um, they will either be getting shipped or you can pick em up cuz I dont think I can drive out to meet you:(

hey sled, about your trouble with the suspended license.....
Now i haven't done a search yet for the reason yours got suspended but I came close to loosing mine last summer. I was one of the unlucky ones randomly selected to show proof of insurance by mail form the BMV. I own two cars, my cougar and an old volkswagen that i have been in the process of restoring. Although my cougar had full insurance on it, my vw did not. The letter was requesting that i show proof of insurance on the VW. Ohio law states that if you are caught without insurance you loose your license for 90 days. As soon as i got the letter in the mail i knew that I was going to loose my driving privileges. Right away I wrote a letter to the clerk of courts requesting a hearing to explain my reasons for not carrying it. Two months pass by without any word from the BMV or the court. The day before my suspension was to begin, i got a letter from the BMV saying that all the charges had been dropped due to their inability to grant me a hearing within 30 days of my request. I got to keep my license but unfortunately I had already applied for high risk insurance with my insurance company and had sent my plates and drivers license to the BMV to be destroyed. I figured the few bucks for a new card and plates was a small price for still being able to drive. Try following up with your request for a hearing. perhaps you might be able to work something out with them. good luck. :)
Thanks man- I'm gonna have my attorney check into that one ASAP tomorrow morning (heh- my stepdad). 30 days eh? well guess what? after jerkin me around for all of November and December I finally wrote the check in person to the Parma court (finally found someone helpful) and that was 12/23/02- so its been over 30 days and still no word...so much for the right to a speedy trial and all that bull eh? So basically I can get stopped today and have a hearing tomorrow thanks to a cop who was bored basically, or I can try to get one the legitimate way and it takes who knows how long... well, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed a minute ago but now I'm just plain pissed. Everyone knows the BMV has their collective heads up their backsides and the officer today even agreed...what a joke this is. All they want is to make money. F-them. If I miss cougarfest and lose thousands of dollars in fines (tens of thousands if it affects the job I should be getting) then when this is all cleared up (if ever) I'm gonna be a different person- and they will NOT like me.

Well I talked to Slade a little tonight and everyone needs to wish him luck. His situation may be even worse than he thought, now that he found out the BMV guy gave him totally F@cked info on how to go about getting his license priveleges. Don't you just love when a government official gives you incorrect info (the person that is supposed to know what's going on and how to go about it) and you are the one getting it up the @ss. Sorry, if i seem a little steamed, but I feel really bad for Slade and it just pisses me off to know that he was doing everything he was told to do and come to find out, he was doing it all wrong. Anyone want to take a trip to the Parma BMV for a little mischief and maham.
Good Luck Slade. Don't forget, if you need anything I am just a cell phone call away.

I talked with Slade too last night and he was upset, he even turned down a free dinner from Becky and I! Hey one thing to add that might help others is why she pulled you over. For license plate covers!!! those $5 covers just cost Slade his license. Whata joke, they can pull you over for anything. FYI everyone if you have license plate covers, don't get the real dark ones and keep'em clean especially with all the salt on the roads, they get real hard to read.
Glad to see the system is keeping the real trouble makers like Slade off the road:rolleyes: No DUI's, no Reckless ops., just a couple tickets that happened to come all to close together in timing.
Whata bunch of crap!

I think if Slade gets a lawyer to help he is going to way better off. Slade is not a bad guy he is just a regular guy with no previous court history. Plus if he can prove the BMV jerked him around then he should have a good enough case that he may just have to pay a few fines and not worry about. I am sure the legal system has more things to worry about.

Slade,
from a guy who's never had his license taken away, but who has had the pleasure of the tiny police car rear seat twice too often, and pays out the a$$ for insurance every month, you have my utmost sympathies!
Yea, most of the BMV is your standard government bureaucracy. My mom is the deputy registrar in her county, she's an independent business person who has a state contract (she doesn't work -for- the state), and even she get's the runaround sometimes talking to the state BMV. She has a sense of customer service, the state obviously doesn't.
Sorry man :( Hang tough!

Well uh, I agree with Tony, FFFFFFFFF*********CCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK. But Good Luck, I hope things work out for ya. Get the cougar back ASAP!
First off, Thanks everyone. Seriously. I knew I'd have your support on this crap but still, from the bottom of my heart thank you.:grouphug:
Now- for those of you who I havent spoken to on the phone:
Good news actually. I get to court early with pops and meet my stepdad there (he's an attorney for nationwide insurance;) ) Basically my step-dad walk into the courtroom like 30 minutes earlier than the court time and when he emerges he wispers to me " heh, I know that prosecuter. I cut a deal".
So I'll skip the several stages of negotiations but the end result (and the magistrate was NOT happy about going along with this) I had to pay a $50 fine, no points, for something like failure to display plates. I got 2 very very serious charges dropped: Driving under suspension (bad) and FRA suspension voilation (very very very very very very...you get the idea, BAD) Its basically driving without insurance and is a good way to visit the inside of a jail cell. Anyway, those just kinda disappeared and I had court costs of $86 per ticket (3) and the $50 fine. Yeah, I got severely hosed on the court costs but I gladly wrote that check:cover:
Now - about the car. First off I was near tears last night laying in bed thinking about what could possibly be happening to her (This is not just for chuckles either- its the truth, as pathetic as that is). Ive come to learn that I am way too attached to that car for my own good. It controls me...not good. Anyway, I got the court relase and went to pick it up. The odometer hadnt changed so that was a good thing and other than some very greasy paw prints on the inside the car appears to be undamaged. Naturally I didnt drive it and it is now resting peacefully in my Dad's driveway. I am very happy and relieved that she is doing well considering. I wouldve gladly spent a night or 2 in jail in exchange for the car not being impounded. Oh well, its over now. Oh, and impound charges are total :bs: so prepare for a pounding if it happens to you (and bring cash). That's about it to this point. After busting my a$$ this weekend I have now achieved a net profit of $3 for the effort. Thank you Rocky River and North Olmstead. I hate you.

SWEEETTT!!! You got your baby back! I bet it felt sweet when your step dad knew the prosecutor. So are you still going to get your liscense back in April? Or do you have it back now?
Anyways when I come to cleveland the drinks are on me.
Later,
Tony
Hmmm, well, maybe I should start donating here first? So how bout it Shelly...care to be a recipient of a batch of um...er, plasma? ;)
Ok- that was prolly way outta line but such is life. I have a serious problem with needles though and I kinda like having two kidneys. It'd prolly take a friend or a family member in need to get me to drop those.
On the fines- my math may have been off earlier but here's the breakdown:
I did a nice little paint job this weekend and made $390.00
After court costs and impound costs I lost $387.00
That leaves a net profit of $3 for a paint job that I SHOULD have charged close to a grand for...I gotta stop being so nice and start doing this stuff at market cost:banghead:
I need a rich girlfriend I think...Hey Janelle, your mom still like me?:naughty:

Slade,
Two things...
(1) I've cried over my Cougar, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
"Hello, my name is LinkMan, and I'm a Cougar-holic."
(2) You have survived! How can we tell that you're Ok? You are *already* hitting on the older women!
Good luck dude!

I remember the look on your face when I told you I threw a ton of snow on your clean car at Snowtrails:rofl: It was priceless! I couldn't believe that you fell for it.
Anyways I understand.

Congrats SLADE!!!!!!!!
It sucks that you had to toss all that $$$ but
you did get your ride back. And it could've been alot worse
I didn't chim in earlier because Jason gave me the heads up
on the situation.
P.S. I cried with my Cougar........during the header install
and the pulley... and when I scrapped the bottom of the
new front clip on my folks driveway... and when I sheared three
UIM bolts....and when I broke the clip on one of the injectors....
yeah I have a problem too!
Well, that part is taken care of and as far as my painting jobs my dad has been great in offering to pick me up and take me there- as well as the client (we know her well) being willing to work with me or give me a ride places on occasion. Now the tricky part is UPS- "IF" I am awarded the full time job I will need to be able to get to work at odd hours which means...me driving. I will soon have a court hearing for occupational privleges but until then I am screwed. If the bid doesnt start next week though I think I can take another vacation week to stall the driving. Luckily its early in the year and we are overstaffed. I'm not outta this yet but if things work out in the correct order the next 2 weeks then I may be ok.:cover:
