View Full Version : cruising with an RSX-S

one of my buddies just bought a RSX-S about a month ago, and he's been itching to race me once his engine is broken in. he bugs me so much, so I give in just to shut him up. one condition, though: he's gotta load his car with 2 passengers to even out his 30-hp advantage. so my 2 brothers pile up in his car and we cruise for the street infamous for bad stoplight timing. sure enough, we caught enough red lights to make a decent stoplight grand prix.
well to make a long story short, I beat him about half the time, and he beat me about half the time. it depended mostly on the launch. it sucked when my clutch started getting hot and it started to take me 2 seconds to shift into 2nd.
the best thing to come out of this is that he finally shut up about racing. he even said he's over racing (oh really... ). too bad it had to come at the expense of disappointment
one thing he won't shut up about, though, is complaining about how his VTEC isn't kicking in...whatever...

what he meant by the i-vtec not kicking in is (hopefully) that he just wasn't shifting properly. if you don't shift the rsx-s at 8000+ rpm you won't land in the vtec powerband (5800+). it is very difficult to drive until you're used to shifting up that high...and if you don't...well...you saw what happens. that's the danger of a little honda engine...you gotta know how to drive it to do any good with it.

sounds like a good race, especially with the weight adjustments to even things out. :)

vtech phones are faster, more reliable, lighter, and easier to mod than domestic phones.

if you told me he was a good driver than I would have called :bs:

but since you say he can't drive his car worth a damn yet, then you do have a chance :)

being unfamiliar with the rsx-s or gt-s and their shifting pattern provides lots of entertainment on other forums...reading the stories of people misshifting and detonating their engines. custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

one rsx-s guy did the 'ol 6-to-2 instead of 6-to-4 on the highway...acura estimated the engine hit around 10k rpm before blowing up. poor car. :(
