here u go adam here is some pics of the install and of what the old stuff looks like. this install was a pain in the @$$ . I purchased the SPEC stage 2 clutch and SPEC lightened flywheel. sweet package and came with a throw out bearing.

i was driving to work downshifting to pass someone and the clutch pedal stayed on the floor luckily i was only going 45 , i was able to get in neutral and slow the car down. the clutch didn't feel any slipage or anything. just boom dead

this install was easier for me because i had the lift and air tools. i cant believe it when i hear about people doing it in there driveway, unless u pull the entire engine out of the car

Excellent post !

Thanks so much for those pictures. I recently had my clutch replaced but it's nice to see what it actually looks like apart when you do it yourself. If only I had the time. Anyway, great post again !

i didnt need a lift. i did mine in my garage. why did you go with the ss2? i went with the ss1. the kevlar compound of the ss2 scared me away. it easy to glaze and f%ck up.

i am trying to push as much i can out of the 2.5L and I do plan on using a built 3L and i felt better using the ss2 than the ss1

She's still good. She's got a few miles left in 'er capt'n... ;)

i wish she still had more miles. the slave cylinder crapped out really bad. the pedal was on the floor and i had to pick it up off the ground with my hand and it would just fall back on the floor. i have to rebuild the tranny or just do what predator is doing and get a second tranny and rebuild that one and then just swap

Oh man, you are a life saver! I was going to swap it out this past weekend but couldn't figure out how to support the engine and pull the subframe.

We have airtools which will make it easy, but this works out perfect! I'm taking pictures of everything also. I got great documentation on how to install a Torsen LSD with a video clip of it spinning in the tranny.

yep this is true . i just replaced my trans with a rebuilt one from terry haines( HMS)

and yes i just repeated this process and i just endured the suck..again . I just cant bite the bullet and pay 500 to have someone eslse do it

i must add remember to be careful with the shifter cables when removing them from the transmission because they are expensive.

how long did it take you to do the whole thing? FYI if you learn the duratec quite well you can pull it successfully in 4 hours, install the new shizzle, and then another 4-6 hours of reinstalling

fordrule
08-27-2005, 08:08 PM
if we had all the right tools we would have done it a lot quicker ,but it was a lot quicker than the last time

Same thing happened to my clutch last week. The clutch had chattered and vibrated bringing it up into engagement in first since we had it fitted a year ago (thought it was my bad driving habits!) and it gave up the ghost suddenly, in a downshift same as yourself. Friction material stripped on the flywheel side, with one dead flywheel.

Investigating the cause with the clutch manufacturer, although I suspect that dodgy fitting is the cause of this one.

What caused yours?

Whats A Coated Kogbox? Powdercoated?

fordrule
05-25-2008, 05:19 PM
the internals of the transmission...ie gears, shift forks, blockers and syncros are coated in a teflon material. to help with the wear and tear on the tranny. i thought it was good for preventive maintance
