Speaking of mods, has anyone ever thought of doing side pipes?

I've seen them on Mustangs, and they look really neat.

I'd figure exhaust gas temperatures would make it not feasible. The heat from the exhaust gases would be vented into the area of the rear wheels and brakes. That heats the brakes up. Hot brakes = not happy when you need to suddenly stop.

A couple of reasons why it wouldn't work:

1) Fuel line. Its in the way. Fuel + Heat = Disaster
2) Brakes. Just like Rich said.
3) Muffler Placement. Where would you put your muffler(s) and catalytic converter?
4) They'd look pretty dumb. Side-pipes suit some cars, but not this one, IMO.

Basically, its just not worth the money, and time to do it on this car. ;)

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks.

Even if it did work, the point about the brakes is enough for me, as the factory rotors warp easily. With my drive on the 404/DVP and all the stop and go traffic, especially in the summer, I'd need new rotors every September.

It's funny you mention that. I was at Dan's place last summer ( Hamill ) and saw his dad's vette with beautiful chrome side pipes and immediately thought about it on the Coug. I'm not skilled enough to do it, however, Pierre (Puckpuck) is working on it shortly.
I was at his place yesterday talking to him about it.

putting my dads pipes on the coug would melt the car! hahaha......

I thought about it when I was doing my exhaust b/c my buddy Dana Had his Sonoma with side exits.....of course he had to cut them off because of the hydros.....but I thought about it.

Esencially, if the pipes were on the outside of the car it is possible. with the right side skirts, you could exit the pipe out the side......possibly though
